Recovery Health Technician/Youth Mentor - Sheridan

Summary/Objective

The Recovery Health Technician monitors and aids patients in a residential facility who are receiving treatment for substance use and co-occurring disorders.

The Youth Mentor position is responsible for the safety and wellbeing of youth ranging in age from 10 years to 17 years. Youth Mentors act as role models, mentors, and advocates to young people brought to the Crisis Shelter/Group Home who potentially is facing a wide range of challenges, such as behavioral and legal issues, substance abuse, and dysfunction in the home.

Essential Functions for Recovery Health Technician

  • Ensure patient compliance with program guidelines and log patients' daily actions and behaviors
  • Continuously monitor patients for mental and physical well-being, including signs of illness or injury, substance use or conflict with other patients and report observations

  • Working in concert with the patient’s counselor, aid patients with clarification of the 12-steps program, productive use of time, coping with emotional and program concerns

  • Facilitate psycho-educational groups for patients
  • Chart patient medication usage
  • Conduct inspection rounds of the facility to observe patient behavior and ensure the facility is clean and hazard free

  • Transport patients to appointments and meetings in the community
  • Perform patient drug testing

Essential Functions for Youth Mentor

  • Provide youth with a structured, positive environment

  • Coach/Mentor youth on demonstration of positive and appropriate behaviors by the behavior management system
  • Ensure the overall health, safety, and security of assigned youth; ensure all fire and safety measures are observed
  • Monitor the movement inside and outside facility, contacts, events, and behaviors associated with youth

  • Act as a liaison between Milestones and other supporting organizations
  • Ensure group home cleanliness and upkeep
  • Perform partial intake process on all new arrivals
  • Regularly tour and observe the facility and grounds to ensure a high level of security
  • Monitor visitor activities
  • Prepare meals for youth
  • Transport youth to school, appointments, etc. using a company vehicle

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities

Work Environment

This job operates in a residential treatment facility environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers, photocopiers, and smartphones.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. This would require the ability to bend or stoop as necessary. This position must be mobile throughout the facility, as well as work on a computer for periods of time.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position in a 24/7 facility. Days and hours of work vary according to assigned shift.

Travel

Little to no travel is expected for this position.

Required Education, Experience or Eligibility Qualifications

  • High School education or equivalent

  • Proficient with a variety of computer software programs, including but not limited to Microsoft Suite and desktop publishing

Preferred Education and Experience

Previous Human Services training and experience
