JOB TITLE:

Marketing & Communication Specialist

JOB PURPOSE:

Provide leadership in the design and development of marketing and public relations strategies for the UW College of Business. Provide a strategic marketing and public relations approach that considers the integration of all marketing efforts, including the website, social media presence, publications, advertising pieces, multimedia/video pieces and communications/press releases.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create and oversee a strategic marketing plan for the College of Business. This plan will consider the integration of all marketing efforts, including the college website, social media presence, advertising pieces, multimedia/video pieces and press releases. Duties include meetings with the Institutional Marketing Director, Associate Directors of Enrollment and Creative Services, College of Business Dean, College Editor, and other members of the Institutional Marketing and College of Business teams. This position will report directly to the Associate Director of Enrollment Marketing with a dotted line to the College of Business Assistant Dean for Strategy and Engagement. Additionally, this individual will be expected to serve on the college's executive team and be available for regularly scheduled meetings with college leadership and advisory board.

  • Serve as the content writer for recruiting and the liaison and lead coordinator for all college-related marketing activities. Duties include the creation of informational content that supports the college's strategic plan, university brand, establishing and/or maintaining cooperative relationships with college departments, employees, student groups, community, governmental, and other public interest groups, as well as news and other media.

  • Develope and actively manage integrated digital marketing strategies. Regularly plan, create, and execute updated content for the college website and all digital media platforms. Must have strong understanding of appropriate contents and will be expected to offer development recommendations to college leadership based upon available marketing analytics/data.

  • Provide direction and assistance to the college and individual units on the most appropriate way to present information and ways to engage the audience.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor's degree, preferably in Communications, Marketing or related field or equivalent combination of work and experience

Experience: 3 years work-related experience in marketing, communications, journalism or public relations.

Must have demonstrated:

  • Website design and content management experience

  • Demonstrated graphic design skills (digital and print)

  • Experience working on multiple media platforms such as digital, print, video and social media

  • Experience with special events and media coordination

  • Excellent written, oral, and verbal communication skills

Required Licensure, Certification, Registration or other Requirement: Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) that is compliant with the University Vehicle Use Policy .

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in Communications, Marketing or related field

  • Experience with designing, producing, and managing an annual marketing and communications plan

  • Experience developing and executing integrated digital media campaigns

  • Critical thinking skills, can see “big picture”, and highly adaptive

  • Strategic planning skills

  • Skilled writer and editor

  • Experience leading marketing and communications in higher education, private industry, or non-profits

  • Experience working with senior leaders and across diverse functional areas

  • Ability to make proactive recommendations to leadership based upon available data
