GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

This position performs functions related to legal proceedings as it pertains to Unemployment Insurance and the Unemployment Insurance Commission.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.
  • Consistently demonstrates analytical ability, administrative skills, ingenuity, and independent judgment in their area.

  • Assists attorneys in drafting Unemployment Insurance Commission rulings.

  • Functions as liaison between attorneys, courts, employers, clients, and others.

  • Gathers information by asking questions or determining sources for information to accurately assist public, agency attorneys.

  • Provides case management of cases by scheduling and tracking deadlines to move cases forward to meet procedural requirements.

  • Provides case management of discovery documents for disbursement.

  • Enters and reviews data entered in designated computer software programs.

  • Processes subpoenas for agencies and attorneys.

  • Identifies appropriate laws, judicial decisions, legal articles, and other materials that are relevant to assigned cases.

  • Verifies accuracy of cited cases.

  • Oversees and coordinates document production; compiles information necessary for reports and case development.

  • Researches legal and unemployment insurance program documents.

  • Assists in Unemployment Insurance Commission meetings, scheduling of meetings, and processing documents for Commissioners.

  • Assists in, and directs the work of temporary staff or others.

  • Serves as administrative assistant to the Unemployment Insurance policy lead.

  • Creates affidavits for the Attorney's General to prepare for civil action cases.

  • Provides investigative assistance and documentation to Attorney General personnel to prepare civil action cases and compile files.

  • Performs legal research using methods such as databases to retrieve, organize, index, and cross-reference legal materials.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of legal concepts, terminology, principles, and procedures.

  • Knowledge of administrative law, terminology, principles, and procedures.

  • Knowledge of the use of legal reference material and legal research.

  • Knowledge of court and Unemployment Insurance Commission procedures.

  • Knowledge of government and legislative processes.

  • Knowledge of Wyoming Statutes and agency mission goals, policies, and procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Bachelor's Degree (typically in Paralegal/Legal Studies)

Experience:

0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Paralegal /Legal Studies) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Legal Support Specialist

OR

Education & Experience Substitution:

3-5 years of progressive work experience typically in Paralegal /Legal Studies) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Legal Support Specialist

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

OR a National Association of Legal Assistants certificate as a CLA or ALS (Certified Legal Assistant) or CP (Certified Paralegal) or National Federation of Paralegal Association PACE Registered Paralegal
