Job Description

The Mechanical Design Engineer will report to the Engineering Manager and will be responsible for engineering documentation control while supporting senior engineers in development of new mechanical and electromechanical products and maintenance of existing products. The entry level design engineer may perform any of the following duties:

Responsibilities

:

  • Manage engineering change system.
  • Manage customer print processing system.
  • Use computer aided design and engineering software to create designs and perform analyses.
  • Prepare product 3D designs and detailed drawings.
  • Develop concept designs in a timely fashion to aid in new product sales.
  • Design molded plastic, molded or stamped elastomer, and stamped or formed metal parts.
  • Use tools to produce designs that can be manufactured in a high volume production envirionment.
  • Analyze mechanisms using free body diagrams, solid models, or mechanism software.
  • Analyze piece part stresses using hand calculations or finite element analysis.
  • Confer with other research personnel to resolve problems, prepare modifications or develop new designs.
  • Support the completion of design failure mode and effects analysis.
  • Perform tolerance analysis for development of new products and changes to existing products.
  • Create and maintain project documentation in compliance with ISO 9001.
  • Assemble prototypes and perform engineering test.
  • Confer with laboratory staff in creating test plans and setting up tests.
  • Attend tool design reviews.
  • Understand and follow ITW Appliance Component’s tollgate development process.
  • Confer with purchasing staff to select components and materials.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering (BSME) from four-year college or university. A master’s degree in engineering is a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience with CAD using a recognized software package (SolidWorks, CREO/Pro-E, Other) Finite element analysis experience a plus.
  • Demonstrated excellent time management, prioritization abilities and strong project management skills.
  • Ability to manage complexity and change.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to generate respect and trust from staff and external constituencies along with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues to create a results driven, team-oriented environment.
  • Willing to travel up to 10%.
