- Identify, troubleshoot and resolve network-related or thought-to-be-related issues across the entire state of West Virginia.
- Configure, install, maintain and update video-related hardware and associated software/firmware/code.
- Work with remote sites to identify and remedy compromised machines around the WV State network.
- Work with Judges, Clerks, Lawyers and related positions to install, test and schedule encrypted video via our Cisco Telepresence infrastructure.
- Work with WVROCKS staff locally and at 13 remote sites around the state to enable distance learning using video and WebEx.
- Be on call to respond to network emergencies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. This is a rare occurrence, but after-hours work is always possible unless on leave or out of town. Ideally, we all back one another up on the Telecomm team.
- Configure, install, maintain and update network-related hardware and associated software/firmware/code.
- Utilize in-house OZ problem tracking system to record and track projects, maintenance of equipment and as a tool for researching past solutions to problems.
- Problems encountered require considerable analytical and research skills coupled with an extensive knowledge base of the technology equipment used across the state unified network. Often, varying and non-compatible systems are in use, which compounds the problems in providing network services.
- The design and implementation of new and/or integrated systems requires an in-depth knowledge of both the users’ needs and the technologies available to achieve the desired results. Effective, clear and concise communication is the key to understanding the customer’s requirements and creating a path forward.
- The ability to collaborate with teams of people over weeks and months on multiple and technical projects at once. Projects which have many ‘moving parts’ and which require accurate and detailed planning and research to avoid system and network outages of mission critical systems.
- Working knowledge of the following:
- Internet TCP/IP protocols;
- LANs and WANs configuration and interconnections;
- configuring port-channels, BVIs, SVI’s and associated settings;
- electronic mail systems, gateways, and DNS;
- building telecommunications wiring, termination and cabling systems;
- video endpoint configuration, usage and deployment.
- Demonstrated abilities/skills to:
- think logically in problem troubleshooting while under stress;
- communicate on technical issues effectively both orally and in writing to both technical and non-technical audiences;
- meet deadlines;
- work accurately and follow lengthy, specific directions;
- use creativity and imagination in technical problem solving;
- understand complex technical manuals and concepts.
- Associate’s Degree in Electronics, Computer Science, Telecommunications or related field or Equivalent experience.
- Cisco Certified Network Associate or better.
- Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Electronics, Computer Science, Telecommunications or related field or Equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated hands-on proficiency with the Cisco CLI is a must.
- Six (6) to Eight (8) Years of experience are necessary to understand the complex, interworking of computer-based electronic signaling equipment used in modern communications networks.
- Ideal candidate will be self-motivated, able to multitask and enjoy problem solving. Candidate will be given lead on tasks and assignments from day one, to include working daily with local and remote technical and non-technical staff (Network Engineers, DBA’s, System Admins, Computer Center Directors, Supreme Court Judges and Clerks, Tax Assessors, Vendors, etc) to analyze and correct network-related issues (video, audio, data, throughput, latency, outages, compromised machines and misuse, etc).
