Windows Systems Administrator (PT3) - Information Technology Services (15388)The Department of Information Technology Services at West Virginia University is seeking applications for a Windows System Administrator. This position will be part of the Enterprise Infrastructure Systems Engineering team and is responsible for the installation, operational support, and maintenance of Windows systems, software, and associated infrastructure. Proven experience in system automation and cloud technologies is essential.In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:Operating System Support: Independently and/or part of a team provide perform the installation, operation/support and maintenance of Windows systems, software, and associated infrastructure. This includes monitoring of system logs, conducting independent analysis of performance issues, system failures and other events impacting operational stability. Generation of reports, postmortems, and root cause analyses are required as needed.Active Directory: This position will serve as the team expert to provide support typically associated with the role of a Domain Administrator. This includes managing the schema and directory infrastructure, DNS, certificates, security, trust relationships, monitoring and alerting, domain controller maintenance, policy monitoring and compliance, managing group policies, etc.Security: As part of a team, this position is responsible for the security of infrastructure. This includes the monitoring of vulnerabilities, the installation and maintenance of virus protection software, responding to and notifying management of problems detected. Review documentation, test and install updates. Responsible for installation, upgrade, configuration, security, monitoring and tuning of servers. Work directly with vendor technical support to resolve issues whenever appropriate. Assist in the development of support documentation.Automation: Collaboration on the development of well written, tested, and documented systems automation tools and custom internal utilities is required. Use of common and well supported tools and programming languages is expected. Version control use is assumed. This will be done under the guidance of senior administrators and management. Advance shell scripts, PowerShell, Ansible, GIT and CI/CD pipelines are common in our environment.Server Virtualization and Cloud: An understanding and familiarity of server virtualization and cloud technologies is required. This position will provide support in meeting WVU's goals of migrating operations to cloud infrastructure. This will be done under the guidance of the Cloud and Virtualization team and Infrastructure Architect. Typical tasks include migrating physical systems to virtual, migration of on premises systems to cloud, monitoring resource consumption to ensure proper sizing, etc.Day to Day Operations: Work with team members to monitor ticket queues to ensure smooth operation of WVU systems. Typical duties include patching, anti-virus, file system maintenance, port requests, file share management, user and group management, etc. In addition, this position provides technical support for applications hosted by ITS. The incumbent will work with other ITS staff, WVU departments and/or vendors for application installation and support.
