There is one Program Coordinator II ( Interpreter Services Coordinator) vacancy with Yakima County District Court . The Court Coordinator for Interpreter Services plays a pivotal role in ensuring effective communication within the court system by overseeing all aspects of interpreter services. This position is responsible for assessing and monitoring the interpreter service needs across all court operations, including hearings, programs, and translation services. Key responsibilities include sourcing and negotiating contracts with interpreter service providers, managing those contracts, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards. The Coordinator will actively participate in state and local committees and workgroups focused on improving interpreter services, fostering collaboration and best practices. The role entails reviewing and processing invoices for payment, overseeing grant applications and reporting, and managing the court’s Language Access Plan to ensure equitable access to justice for all individuals. The Coordinator will also develop educational materials for court staff and the public to enhance understanding of interpreter services and maintain the court's website section dedicated to these services.
As of this posting, this position is temporary to allow for training for the successful candidate with the existing employee occupying the permanent position. Once the employee vacates the permanent position, this temporary position will be converted to the permanent position.

Note: This is an AFSCME -87 Master Courthouse Union Position.
Essential Duties:
Makes recommendations and participating in the design, development, and implementation of policies, procedures, and guidelines for interpreting services, as well as analyzing language needs trends within the court. Key responsibilities include investigating technological advancements in interpreter services to assess their applicability; keeping track of legislation, guidelines, and standards that impact interpreter services and recommending necessary programmatic changes; addressing issues related to interpreter guidelines, ethics, standards, protocols, and methodologies; orienting and training both new interpreters (staff and contractors) and court staff on interpreting services; participating in the recruitment, selection, and training of both staff and contract interpreters; acting as an integral member of the court team to ensure coverage for interpreting services across two different court locations.
Determines the most efficient and cost-effective use of interpreter resources to fulfill the needs of the Court and Probation Services. Addresses issues related to service availability and quality and evaluates ongoing service requirements.
Prepares, negotiates, and tracks contracts, monitors and approves expenditures, and generates billing reports. Investigates funding opportunities, writes proposals, and manages grants and financial resources.
Manages the Courts. Language Access Plan, recommends revisions, and develops training and materials about available language services for court staff, law and justice partners and the community. Responsible for maintaining the Court’s website on interpreter services.
Participates in local and statewide committees and/or workgroups focused on interpreter services.

Education and Experience:
Associate degree or two year technical certificate in Criminal Justice, Paralegal Studies, Public Administration, Business Administration or a closely related field AND two (2) years of legal or court experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides knowledge, skills and abilities sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
Required:
Valid WA State Driver’s License and proof of insurance, if requested.

Equipment Used: Computers, workstations, printers, copiers, fax machines, telephones, office scanners, document/case management systems, conference equipment, shredders, office furniture, administrative supplies, and passenger vehicle.
Working Conditions: This position is rated as Sedentary Work, exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
Environment: Duties are carried out in an office and/or courtroom environment, where there may be exposure to potentially violent or hostile individuals. Travel is required for training purposes. Maintaining confidentiality is essential.

Familiarity with best practices, ethics, and standards in interpreter services, including knowledge of different interpreting methodologies and protocols.
Knowledge of contract negotiation, management, and compliance, including the ability to prepare and track contracts related to interpreter services.
Proficiency in budgeting, tracking expenditures, and generating billing reports to manage financial resources effectively.
Awareness of technological advancements in interpreting services, including remote interpreting and software tools that enhance service delivery.
Ability to analyze data related to language needs and service usage trends to make informed recommendations for policy and program changes.
Skills in designing and delivering training programs for interpreters and court staff, ensuring they are well-versed in interpreting services and procedures.
Knowledge of community resources and the ability to develop outreach materials to educate the public about available language services.
Understanding of grant application processes, funding sources, and the ability to write proposals and manage awarded funds effectively.
Familiarity with web content management systems to maintain and update the court's website regarding interpreter services, ensuring it is user-friendly and informative.
Experience participating in committees and workgroups, demonstrating the ability to collaborate with various stakeholders to improve interpreter services.
Skills and abilities:
