Key capabilities include science (chemical and mechanical). We employ a systems perspective that includes, discovery technology development and scale-up as well as economic, regulatory, and market acceptance issues necessary for successful technology commercialization. EP&MD focuses on three mission contributions: Clean Fossil Energy, Electricity Infrastructure, & Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy.ResponsibilitiesWe are seeking an outstanding Post-Doctoral candidate to join our multi-disciplinary team focused on development of biological processes to produce renewable fuels and chemicals within the Agile BioFoundry. The Agile BioFoundry is a multi-national lab consortium focused on implementation of metabolic engineering strategies and efficient improvement of bioprocesses. In this position the candidate will have the opportunity to develop computational biology and bioinformatics tools for integrating multi-omics and bioprocess data with metabolic network models for industrially relevant microorganisms. The candidate will work with others to utilize advanced capabilities such as synthetic biology, machine-learning, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics to improve the biological processes within the Agile BioFoundry and other funding opportunities.The selected candidate is expected to 1) Conduct independent research and work on team assignments focusing on computational synthetic molecular biology focusing on fungi engineering, lead manuscript development and maintain a strong overall publication record in the peer-reviewed scientific literature, 2) Interact, communicate, and problem-solve with a diverse team of research staff across PNNL, 3) Present research work at technical conferences, and 4) Participate in the development of research proposals.QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years (60 months) or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.

Preferred Qualifications:PhD in Computational Biology, Systems Biology, Biological Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field

Experience in metabolic network modeling, bioinformatics, and analysis of multi-omics datasets (genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics).

Experience with process control, experimental design, and machine learning is preferred.

Possesses good written and oral communication skills, has demonstrated an ability to collaborate effectively, has a track record of demonstrating initiative, problem-solving, independent execution of routine research tasks, demonstrated ability to publish high impact research, and ability to learn new concepts and research techniques.

Candidate must have completed a doctoral degree at an accredited college or university.

Minimum overall GPA of 3.0 required.
