Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is a world-class research institution powered by a highly educated, diverse workforce committed to the values of Integrity, Creativity, Collaboration, Impact, and Courage. Every year, scores of dynamic, driven people come to PNNL to work with renowned researchers on meaningful science, innovations and outcomes for the U.S. Department of Energy and other sponsors; here is your chance to be one of them!At PNNL, you will find an exciting research environment and excellent benefits including health insurance, flexible work schedules and telework options. PNNL is located in eastern Washington State—the dry side of Washington known for its stellar outdoor recreation and affordable cost of living. The Lab’s campus is only a 45-minute flight (or 3 hour drive) from Seattle or Portland, and is serviced by the convenient PSC airport, connected to 8 major hubs.OverviewThe Earth and Biological Sciences Directorate (EBSD) leads novel and necessary research in three core areas: Atmospheric and Climate Sciences, Biological Sciences, and Environmental Molecular Sciences. The contributions of EBSD staff are many as we continue to elevate the impact of PNNL's science mission: to understand, predict, and control the complex adaptive systems underlying the science behind Earth, energy, and security.ResponsibilitiesThe Environmental Molecular Sciences Division at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) seeks for an outstanding postdoctoral candidate working on developing cutting-age technologies for high-throughput single-cell multi-omics. The project is in a close collaboration with Scienion, a world-leading company in single cell isolation and precision liquid dispensing.PNNL is a leading institution on single-cell and near single-cell proteomics (Zhu et al. Nature Comm. 2018, 882; Piehowski, et al. Nature Comm. 2020, 8, Woo et al. Nature Comm. 2021). PNNL is also part of multiple DOE and NIH-funded research centers focused on single-cell proteomics, tissue proteome mapping and human metabolism. The candidate is anticipated to join an emerging research direction that integrates mass spectrometry-based single-cell proteomics with sequencing-based single cell transcriptomics. The project aims to parallelly profile both gene expression and protein expression from the same single cell(s) in an untargeted fashion. The candidate will be responsible for microchip fabrication, sample preparation for both transcriptomics and proteomics, integrative data analysis, and publication. The candidate will join a highly collaborative environment and project team with diverse expertise. The candidate is expected to work independently, think critically, operate productively in a fast-paced academic environment.QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years (60 months) or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.

Preferred Qualifications:The candidate should have strong expertise in next-generation sequencing techniques (e.g., Smartseq2). Experience of molecular biology skills, including DNA and RNA extraction, reverse transcription, PCR, qRT-PCR is required. The candidate should be familiar with computational biology tools (e.g., R or Python packages) and use these tools to interpret the multiomics data. Experience in microfluidics is a plus. The candidate should possess strong oral and written communication skills. The candidate should demonstrate scientific productivity and drive as evidenced by publication record.Ph.D. in Molecular biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Cellular Biology, Physiology, and Analytical Chemistry or related fields.Hazardous Working Conditions/EnvironmentNot applicableAdditional InformationNot applicableTesting Designated PositionNot applicableCommitment to Excellence, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Equal Employment OpportunityOur laboratory is committed to a diverse and inclusive work environment dedicated to solving critical challenges in fundamental sciences, national security, and energy resiliency.
