Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) has an exciting opportunity for a Supplier Quality Engineering Improvement and Recovery Subject Matter Expert in Multiple posting locations.

The Supplier Quality Engineering Improvement and Recovery Subject Matter Expert is responsible to engage with key suppliers, assess conditions preventing quality and delivery execution and assists the supplier as required in developing and executing recovery (get-to-green) plans. The candidate may participate in supplier assessments independently or as part of a team of experts, skilled at assessing and improving supplier performance.

This position allows telecommuting. The selected candidate will be required to travel to supplier and Boeing locations.

Responsibilities:
  • Understand and prioritize supplier issues and baseline performance utilizing key supplier and / or Boeing metrics
  • Apply expertise in conducting rapid plant assessments and capability reviews across holistic production and quality dimensions
  • Determine supplier capability gaps, key constraints, and direct/systemic root causes
  • Identify issues and opportunities within supplier production and quality models
  • Define or assist in defining key levers and initiatives for improvement, focused on addressing performance issues
  • Collaborate with supplier team to develop quality improvement roadmap
  • May lead or assist on major supplier corrective actions
  • Work with Boeing resources, supplier resources or 3rd party recovery teams as required
  • Advise/Support team in area of expertise, including recommended corrective actions
  • Maintain SME status through continued education, seminar attendance, trade journal review, etc.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. (An Interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post Start is required.)

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • Bachelor of Science (or greater) from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or chemistry, or other technical degree
  • 5+ years of experience in a hands-on production-related discipline such as Manufacturing, Quality, Production Engineering, Supplier Management, and/or Supplier Quality
  • 5+ years of experience providing technical oversight/management of external suppliers
  • Experience working with multiple internal and external stakeholders
  • 5+ years of experience leading root cause / corrective action engagements
  • Effective communicator (verbal and written) with the ability to communicate effectively at multiple organizational levels
  • Experience in leading a virtual team

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • Extensive root cause and corrective action experience in one or more the following areas (SME field): chemical processing, complex machining, actuation systems, electronics (PCB, system/ component wiring, or composite materials)
  • Knowledge and use of systematic and advanced problem solving skills(PDCA,8D,Ishikawa,etc.)
  • Knowledge and use of Advance Product Quality Planning (APQP)
  • Capable of using the Boeing Problem Solving Model
  • Experience using Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), SAP, or similar planning software

Typical Education/Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Relocation:

This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility.

Travel:

Position may require travel up to 70% of the time.
