Hello. My name is Bryant. I am a 61-year-old white male. I am confined to a wheelchair due to an automobile accident 43 years ago that rendered me a C3-C5 quadriplegic with very little functional use of my arms and legs. I try to have 2 caregivers under contract with me but currently have one of those position open. Normally, each caregiver is present in the home for a 12-hour period (usually divided into daytime and evening). It is certainly not that I require constant care – in fact, the routine most days only requires two (2) hours of physical hands-on (2 mornings a week require approximately 5 hours with each caregiver handling one of those two mornings) in both mornings and evenings; however, because of my inability to do most simple things (getting something to drink, turning on electronic devices which I cannot control by voice, occasionally fixing me something to eat), I need someone present to help me with these simple and quick requests. My two caregivers also assist in helping with my laundry and keeping the house clean, but these can be done flexibly to accommodate my caregiver' schedules. I do require that each caregiver know and be able to do both morning and evening routines in order to provide adequate coverage as well as backup/redundancy with my daily care.

I do not qualify for Medicaid assistance, and I do not have sufficient income to afford private care; therefore, THERE IS NO CASH SALARY. What I do have is a very nice, big home which I share with my caregiver(s) and am interested in offering a bedroom and bath with full access to kitchen, laundry, utilities and internet to another caring individual in return for the aforementioned added assistance. There is also 8 acres with a nice pond and all the peace and tranquility in the world!

I live in Dinwiddie County. The things I need assistance with include being catheterized, getting dressed, out of bed and into my wheelchair in the mornings and the reverse in the evenings, helping me turn over once during each night, daily hygiene such as washing up, shaving and brushing teeth, going to the bathroom (2 times weekly), miscellaneous minor things such as something to drink, helping me cough, turning on/off devices, etc. as well as laundry and light housekeeping. Typically, I would say my hands-on time needed 5 days a week in the morning would be approximately 2 hours from 6 AM until 8 AM and 2 days a week would be approximately 4 to 5 hours between 6 AM and 11 AM (these 2 days are when I do my bathroom regimen). In the evenings, the time I physically require hands-on time is between 6 PM and 10 PM to assist me with meals and going to bed and about 15 minutes between 1 AM and 2 AM help me turn over in bed. I can provide the parties with more details of my daily routine for review upon request. There will be 2 caregivers that share these duties between (usually 1 takes the mornings and the other the evenings with each responsible for one of the two weekly bathroom days). Applicants should have knowledge of or be willing to learn male catheterization as well as helping with suppository induced bowel movements.

No drug users or indoor smokers. I will not decide overnight, so if you are needing something yesterday and don’t have time to meet and discuss things a few times, please move on.

If you’re still reading, hopefully you will find this of interest and want to talk further. I have a beautiful home in a quiet and peaceful area. I look forward to hearing back from you. I have had several responses stressing interest but not heard back from my reply, so I am showing my number. Serious inquiries only please. Truly interested parties please call the phone number listed as I am not confident email replies on this service always make it back to the sender.

Thanks,

Bryant
