Development Engineering's primary goal is to enable sales through thoughtful client interaction, the creation of technically feasible PV designs, accurate forecasting of production and cost, iterative value engineering, and the introduction of innovative technical solutions on projects ranging from 200kW to 5MW in size. As a development engineering you will be responsible for solar PV and energy storage projects from origination through proposal, preliminary design and discretionary permitting. Candidates must demonstrate keen interest and knowledge of the solar PV industry and a proven ability to efficiently and effectively multi-task in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment. The Development Engineer works closely with the development and project engineering teams and reports directly to the Senior Development Engineer. DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES- Demonstrate technical ownership of responsible projects in development
- Develop and maintain a thorough knowledge of the Company's technical design standards and methodologies
- Perform project feasibility studies
- Identify technical constraints associated with proposals
- Effectively represent company while performing technical site visits
- Create accurate and timely system performance models in PVsyst and Helioscope
- Evaluate and select equipment to optimize system economics, functionality, reliability, and safety
- Create preliminary drawings including system layouts, site plans and one lines in AutoCAD
- Compile engineering submittals for proposals
- Perform cost/benefit analysis of design and technology variants to optimize economic and performance outcomes
- Bid and manage outside engineering consultants
- Develop site constraint plans using civil, environmental, & interconnection considerations
- Continually seek new equipment and design methodologies for PV systems
- Develop and update design tools and guides
- Other duties, as assigned
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Civil, Electrical, Structural, or Mechanical)
- Proven working experience as a project, sales or development engineer for 4 or more years in the solar PV industry
- Understanding of the NEC, IBC, IFC, and other relevant electrical & building codes as they pertain to solar PV design
- Strong understanding of physical, electrical, and structural construction plans
- PV system performance modeling in PVsyst or Helioscope
- Software experience: Google SketchUp, AutoCAD, AutoCAD Civil 3D, ArcGIS (or similar)
- Strong MS Excel skills
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to work well with others in a collaborative team environment
- Self-motivated
- Honest, reliable, self-aware and conscientious
- Strong Planning, organization and prioritization skills
- Valid state driver's license, clean DMV driving record
- Currently holds or is in the process of obtaining NABCEP Certification
