EO/AAThis position performs advanced emergency medical techniques in the care and treatment of patients under the supervision of a professional licensed staff member. This position may be required to access and administer medications within their scope of practice and according to State Law.Responsibilities

Prepares patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures according to department procedures.

Obtains and records patient temperatures, pulse rates, blood pressure, weight and height measurements, and places patient on pulse oximetry and cardiac monitors as per department protocols, or as directed.

Reports and records all observed or verbalized patient concerns and changes in condition to a member of the nursing or physician staff.

Performs additional skills such as suture removal.

Initiate protocols including placing IV and starting IV fluids, drawing and sending appropriate blood to lab and perform lidocaine injection for digital blocks for MD procedures while acting as primary scribe.

Performs specialty skills and delegated procedures under the direct supervision of a licensed staff member.

Accompanies providers examining patients in examination rooms as needed and/or assists physicians/licensed staff with procedures.

Performs delegated procedures under the direct supervision of a licensed staff member.

Accompanies providers examining patients in examination rooms as needed and/or assists physicians/licensed staff with procedures.

Attends and completes mandatory departmental in-services and trainings.

Performs all documentation responsibilities for trauma, brain attack and critical patient activations.

May perform phlebotomy in accordance with department procedures, and physician orders, after specialized training.

May clean and stock areas as needed.

May perform POC testing in accordance with ambulatory clinic and physician orders, after specialized training.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills.

Demonstrated proficiency in the reporting department's baseline skills.

Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit.

Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures manual.

QualificationsQualifications Licenses Required

Basic Life Support Health Care Provider card through American Heart Association or obtain within one month of hire.

One of the following

Current Advanced EMT certification with the State of Utah.

Current certification to practice as a Paramedic in the State of Utah.

Additional license requirements as determined by the hiring department.

Qualifications (Preferred)Preferred

One year of health-related experience.

ACLS may be required by some departments.

PALS may be required by some departments.

Working Conditions and Physical DemandsEmployee must be able to meet the following requirements with or without an accommodation.

This position involves intensive work that may exert up to 100 pounds and may consistently require lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling or otherwise moving objects, such as medical equipment, or patients while providing medical care.
