Job Description:The Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care of patients. The staff RN utilizes the nursing process by use of technology, therapeutic intervention, evidence-based practice and coordination of care with other health team members.Opportunities within Surgical ServicesSurgical Operations offers nursing positions in several venues including Same Day Surgery/ Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), Operating Rooms, and Endoscopy. Interested candidates may post their application for the overall range of units but if desired, can elect to work in their single area of choice. The surgical operations environment is team-oriented nursing with multi-disciplinary groups including surgeons, gastroenterologists, dentists, anesthesiologists, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, technicians, anesthesia monitoring techs, surgical techs, endoscopy techs orderlies and patient care techs. The nurse is a central team member in these diverse teams and has many different levels of colleagues to lean on and collaborate to provide the patient with a safe and extraordinary experience.Care of the patient in surgery or endoscopy is a complex yet intriguing care continuum from patient preparation for their procedure through post- anesthesia care to complete recovery before discharge to the inpatient setting or for routine surgical care, direct to home. Nurses learn much about the unique stages of anesthesia, how to protect and prepare patients for surgery or Endo procedures where anatomical lessons abound. Post-surgical care involves airway expertise, pain management and a deeper understanding of the hemo-dynamic monitoring. Again, a nurse may choose one area in which to specialize.Surgical services shifts are primarily Monday-Friday, day time work and allow for 8, 9, 10 and 12 hour shifts equaling prn, part or full time hours depending on personal circumstances and availability. Some limited night shifts with a set schedule are available for the person who wants to work nights allowing for family or school obligations. Due to limited emergencies and late cases, some evening and occasional weekend call for daytime staff may be involved. However, in most of our geographical areas, rural and community hospital settings allow for more weekday, daytime care. Rural facilities also allow for broader skill development as our rural surgical teams cross cover several areas. Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers.

Unit specific certification as required (i.e., ACLS, PALS, etc.).

Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Basic computer skills.

RNs hired on or after January 1, 2021 who have 12 months or less of working experience as an RN prior to joining Intermountain must obtain their BSN degree on or before June 1, 2026.

Preferred QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN). Education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Degree will be verified

Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc).and -
