Here is what you will be doing;P erform periodic training and observations of drivers to help improve safety and driving performance

Teaching, training, advising and observing drivers in the unit and will be facilitating driving improvements of the entire team

This position will be based in North Salt Lake, UT

Traveling to the other operations within the unit to cover all the drivers in the unit

The position will mainly be five days a week, Monday through Friday schedules but will need to cover drivers on both the day and night shifts

Salaried position that will report to the senior operations managers in the unit

Create a driving ride along plan for every driver in the Mountain Transportation Unit

Communicate and coordinate with each operational dispatch Team Member, and the drivers to schedule a ride along

Create an observation and training form that will be used in every ride along to document the topics and items discussed and trained

Communicate with the operations manager at each operation the performance of each driver through periodically scheduled meetings

Understand the driver trainer procedures at each operation

Understand and teach the safety principles of the Savage Safe Driving Program (SPACE)

Perform all SPACE annual evaluations and re-certifications for all drivers in the unit

Be an expert in safe driving and driving skills that promote the highest achievable fuel economy

Document driving ride along plan in a tracking spreadsheet to allow leadership to monitor progress weekly

Promote the Savage Hazard Analysis and Prevention System (SHAPS) with all drivers

Mitigate potential risk factors through the Savage systems of 'Better Way" and SHAPS

Be literate in Outlook, Excel, Isite, Geotab and Netradyne

This is what we need from you;

A safe driving record and a demonstration of safe driving skills

Knowledge of best driving practices for safety and fuel economy

Strong skills in driving practices in all weather conditions

Willingness to continue education of safe driving practices and fuel economy driving skills

Knowledge of SHAPS, SPACE and Management of Change programs

Current Savage Team Member preferred

Savage Lead Safety Specialist/Safety Specialist status and experience preferred

Class A CDL is required

At least five years of Long Combination Vehicle experience with a doubles/triples endorsement

Excellent communication skills and ability to connect with all drivers

Strong mentoring and training skills

Natural ability to forge strong and positive relationships with others; must possess honesty, integrity and maintain confidentiality

MSHA and HAZMAT certifications preferred but will be provided if necessary

Willing to travel out of town up to 30 - 50% of the time

Must be willing to perform duties for day time and night time shift drivers which may require working nights and weekends occasionally

Willingness to grow in future leadership positions which may include a relocation. Preferred but no required

Must be self motivated with a strong skill set to schedule and plan out tasks

Some computer skills particularly with applications like Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook is preferred

Strong written and verbal communication skills
