Solution Architect

Position Description The Solution Architect is primarily an individual contributor but can be responsible for a small team. Main scope of work is to provide solution architecture development, consultancy and assurance to projects, making sure applications are well designed and conform to client standards and reference/segment architectures. Translates the guidelines and standards into practice and solves common technical challenges and provides technical recommendations which have a perceptible impact on local business performance; actively drives the identification, development and implementation of new technologies and opportunities to optimise technology/IT systems. Contributes to the training and guidance of other professionals in the field. May represent the Company externally as a subject matter expert with suppliers, customers and external agencies. Empowered to make decisions on solutions within guidelines. Applies TOE standards and raises step-outs if needed. Applies the standard architecture tools for creating and storing key architecture artefacts (IBM System Architect, PowerDesigner and/or ProVision); fosters re-use. Manages the relationship with a customer base on senior levels of business leadership JG1/2. Understands the IT Strategic Roadmap and applies it within the context of their organisational assignment. Uses the related reference architectures and roadmaps for Cloud, Mobile, Integration, OpenSource, Big Data.

This role is based in Houston, Texas.

Your future duties and responsibilities Provide solution architecture development, consultancy and assurance to projects, making sure applications are well designed and conform to Shell standards and reference/segment architectures. The Solution Architect is accountable to the Project Manager for the architecture of a solution being developed and implemented until the successful deployment of the solution.

This includes:a. Being the point of call for all architecture aspects of an IT Project.b. Being able to address and integrate the: Business Process, Data, Application, Technical and Information Security aspects of an IT Solution.c. Ensure projects solution architecture is documented using the relevant templates, tooling and conforms to standards.d. Coach detailed designers and business analysts in projects during their design work.e. Reviewing and accepting the detailed design of an IT solution.f. Support Segment Architects and reviews through the Architecture Review Board as required. Take an active role in documenting, improving & maintaining the Reference Models in Bizzdesign. Lifting project deliverables to the Conceptual and Logical levels. Follow IT Technology developments in the market and leverage this knowledge in architecting solutions in Company. Ensure solutions are 'future-proof'. Stay in touch with development of standards and standard services in IT at Company. To ensure the latest service developments are taken into account. Pro-actively contribute to the development of the Architecture community and be an ambassador for Architecture. Interact with stakeholders on architecture issues and strategic improvements where such expertise is required. Maintain knowledge of compliance and regulatory requirements, including data privacy regulations (e.g. GDPR), and ensure that those are included in architecture design decisions. Responsible for championing and embedding Security by Design and Privacy by Design in projects, and to ensure that the appropriate design decisions are made, documented and implemented. Work with Information Risk Management and Data Protection Officer/Security & Compliance in case of unclarity around Legal & Regulatory requirements The solution architect will work on solution development for the connectivity perimeter transformation project. The scope of the solutions.

Required qualifications to be successful in this role Experience in IBM System Architect, Power Designer and/or ProVision. Experience in Cloud, Mobile, Integration, OpenSource, Big Data. Development of an Enterprise cloud-based WAF and Reverse proxy service for on-prem and cloud hosted applications. Development of user identity based Zero Trust Network Access policy for around 5000 applications in Zscaler Private Access and Palo Alto firewalls. Development of third party access service in Azure and AWS including connecting third party VPN's, third party VPC/VNET, third party VPC/VNET peering Solutions include the technical architecture & design as well as the service operations solution.

Soft Skills & Experience Works with the business to determine and document the applicable data quality standards that the data used in the solution needs to adhere to. Works closely with Data Owners to support data quality improvement exercises. Works with other Architects to understand and document interaction between data and applications to determine current and future systems or records and resulting integration requirements. Works with Process Architect and Business Analysts to understand the relevant business processes, and document relationship between process and data to ensure we know what roles create, update, consume and delete data throughout its lifecycle, both as-is and to-be.
