Academic Professional Track (Non-Tenure): Lecturer, Instructional Assistant Professor, or Assistant Professor of the Practice Agricultural Economics Location College Station, Texas Open Date 9/1/2023 Position ID 130751 Description The Department of Agricultural Economics, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Texas A&M University invites applications for one full-time Academic Professional Track (Non-Tenure) position with a 9-month academic appointment starting in January 1, 2024. Applicants will be considered for the faculty titles of Lecturer, Instructional Assistant Professor, or Assistant Professor of Practice depending on qualifications. The primary duties will be teaching courses related to financial planning and financial readiness during the fall and spring semesters and supporting the financial growth and development of undergraduate students. The selected candidate will have dual teaching responsibilities, with two-thirds time spent on financial planning courses within the newly established financial planning major offered by the Department of Agricultural Economics. Teaching assignments within the financial planning discipline will be tailored to the candidate's expertise and specialization. In addition, approximately one-third of the teaching load will involve instructing coursework in financial readiness (AGLS 335). This course is strategically designed to equip Corps of Cadets students with the necessary skills to navigate intricate financial decisions both during their military service and post-career. The successful candidate is expected to prepare and teach three courses per semester.Key responsibilities for this role encompass teaching at the undergraduate level, fostering departmental and university-wide growth, and engaging with industry partners. The ideal candidate will excel in developing and delivering engaging courses, both in traditional classroom settings and online platforms. Additionally, they will be responsible for grading coursework, conducting regular office hours, and providing valuable mentorship to students. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on student success by participating in recruitment events, particularly with Corps of Cadet students. The selected candidate will play an active role in shaping the future of our financial planning program, ensuring its alignment with evolving industry trends and best practices. Professional development is a cornerstone of our institution, and the successful candidate will contribute by participating in relevant conferences and workshops and staying current with emerging knowledge in financial planning and financial readiness. For appointments at Lecturer, and Instructional Assistant Professor level applicants must have a Ph.D. related to finance, financial planning, or economic discipline from a regionally accredited institution, or a Master's degree related to finance, financial planning, or economic discipline from a regionally accredited institution in which the faculty member shall teach, and significant teaching experience at the college/school level in the field or in a related field, or have an extraordinary record of accomplishment in an applied setting. There may be additional requirements depending on the specific faculty title.
For appointments at Assistant Professor of the Practice level applicants must have a B.S. degree related to finance, financial planning, or economic discipline from a regionally accredited institution in which the faculty member shall teach, a Certified Financial Planner™ certification, an extraordinary record of accomplishment in an applied setting, and at least ten years of experience in the financial planning sector.
Documented success of teaching and advising excellence when working with a diverse population.
Ability to work cooperatively with students, faculty, and staff.
Strong communication skills.
Evidence of innovativeness, creativity, and entrepreneurial skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience communicating with a military audience.
Teaching experience in the field of financial planning and/or financial literacy as a full-time or adjunct faculty member at a college/university.
Public speaking experience in the field of financial planning or financial literacy.
Membership and/or leadership experience within professional organizations.
In-depth knowledge of the collegiate student experience and the financial factors that influence academic and career success for Undergraduates.
Recognized achievement in the field of financial planning, financial literacy, or related fields.
Certified Financial Planner™ certification
