A small family owned company in Cedar Park Texas needs a temporary part time lab technician position filled.

We will be accepting resumes through December 18, 2020.

The laboratory technician will help with media prep, documenting, following written directions, and handling of samples. The main focus of this position will be to help with shelf life studies on food products.

Shift: Tentatively: Mon, Tue, Wed 9AM-3PM

Note: If offered contract, a Criminal Background Check, E-Verify Check required, and drug screening may be required.

Part Time Position

Pay $15/hour as a 1099 contractor.

Weekly pay.

1. Microbiological media preparation.

2. Cleaning, measuring by both volume and weight, diluting, dispensing, sterilizing glass and plastic laboratory containers.

3. Documenting times and temperatures of refrigerators, freezers, incubators and autoclave.

4. Labeling of petri dishes and Petrifilms for samples in process.

5. May assist in performing assays and experiments, and/or data analysis.

6. Moving samples in or out of incubators, refrigerators, freezers, or autoclave.

7. Maintains proper lab documentation including lab notebooks.

8. Receives supplies, files packing slips.

9. Authorized by the lab management for specific tasks as needed.

Must be familiar with basic terminology of volumes, temperatures, measurement, addition, multiplication, division, serial dilutions, and logarithms.

● Familiarity of biotech lab practices.

● Knowledge of lab safety protocol and procedures including and storage of chemicals.

Must possess required skills and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.

● Effective planning, organizing, communication, and interpersonal skills including use of tact and discretion and the ability to meet deadlines.

● Competency in understanding and following instructions precisely, working with lab equipment, and safely working with lab materials.

● Capacity to complete tasks in a timely manner.

● Maintaining confidentiality of work-related information and materials.

● Work is performed in a variety of settings including office and laboratory.

● Subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling and occasionally stooping, crawling, and climbing.

● Occasional lifting of objects up to 50 pounds.

● Able to read chemical labels and instructions as well as use lab equipment; able to survey assigned lab spaces for safety issues.

● Able to perform routine tasks with a great attention to detail.

● Can repeatedly and consistently measure, dilute, shake, mix, stir, carry liquid or solid food, swab, or liquid samples.

Required Education:

● High school diploma or educational equivalent; current GPA 2.8 and above.

● Current enrollment or completion of a college level microbiology course (a transcript will be requested).

Other Preferred Qualifications:

● Knowledge of compliance with Current Good Manufacturing Processes (cGMP)

● Knowledge of manufacturing and biotech lab practices.

● Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, food or life science.

● Several years working experience in a fast-paced detail oriented environment.

Safety

● Work safely and follow safety rules. Report unsafe working conditions and behavior. Take reasonable and prudent actions to prevent others from engaging in unsafe practices.

● This lab handles food and environmental samples which have the possibility of containing pathogenic bacteria such as Salmonella, Listeria monocytogenes, and E.coli O157. These are all considered BSL2 organisms. Good Laboratory Practices and aseptic techniques are required for handling. Basic PPE such as gloves and lab coat will be required for some specific procedures. Listeria monocytogenes can be especially hazardous to pregnant or immunocompromised individuals.

● Appropriate Laboratory Attire Guidance Appropriate dress helps to ensure your safety. Keep the following in mind while you are in the laboratory, you should observe the following guidelines: Wear shirts/blouses that cover the stomach and lower back, as well as the upper arms Wear long pants that reach or cover your ankles Wear sturdy, closed toe shoes that completely cover the foot - a full leather shoe is recommended Long hair should be secured in a ponytail or contained properly Do NOT wear: Tank tops, cropped shirts, bare midriffs and low cut pants Mesh shirts or shirts made of loosely woven material Skin-tight clothing Capri pants and shorts or skirts that do not cover your knees when you are sitting/standing Sandals, flip-flops, or other open toe shoes that do not completely cover your feet - sandals with socks are not considered appropriate attire Shoes made of mesh/woven material Loose or baggy clothing and dangling jewelry that can be caught in equipment or come into contact with hazardous solutions If dressed inappropriately, you may be asked to leave the lab and return in proper attire. Absences from the lab due to inappropriate attire may result in loss of pay. A lab coat, gloves and eye protection will be available at the lab as needed.
