Position Summary: This position attends to and cares for the birds in the Grow House. Other duties may be assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:These weigh out and distribute feed exactly according to the outlines ration for both females and males daily. (25%)

These feed and water birds according to schedules. This includes insuring that feeders and drinkers are accessible to birds and that feed is distributed evenly. Transfer birds between pens according to line, size, and sex as instructed; Calculates feed amounts based on number of birds to be received and adjusts to provide adequate feeder, waterer, and brooder space for all birds. (25%)

These weigh birds weekly, then calculate and record both average weights and uniformity. Perform routine housekeeping duties as outlined on the Daily Checklist that include but are not limited to: turning shavings, changing shavings, sweeping, dusting, removing trash, and light maintenance. Check equipment, partitions, and house infrastructure daily to insure sound integrity and functionality. Repair or report any deficiencies discovered. Examine birds for signs of illness and treat them according to instructions. Record information according to instructions such as bird weight, feed intake, and mortality. Record and dispose of dead birds as instructed. Perform other departmental chores as instructed such as cleaning the break station, cleaning equipment and vehicles, moving birds, grounds-keeping, and cleaning incinerators. Vaccinates and isolates birds to effect disease control program. Places pen partitions according to these calculations. Administer nutritional supplements and medications as instructed. (40%)

Other Duties, Responsibilities, and Activities:These may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice, such as: Maintain and assist with housekeeping standards in the working areas; inspect birds to determine quality and progress by weighing birds weekly; sanitation of storage areas, breakroom, boot rooms, equipment, and vehicles; moving birds, grounds-keeping and organizing breeder tags; properly euthanize selected or weak/ill birds in accordance with company policy (10%)

Biosecurity Requirements/Animal Welfare Requirements:The jobsite is a biosecure environment which requires showering, changing clothing and footwear before entering the facility. Appropriate clothing and footwear is provided by the Company. No jewelry may be worn on the jobsite except for medical ID jewelry and body piercings covered by appropriate clothing. Must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid any avian species (chickens, ducks, birds, etc.). Must be willing to sign and abide by the Company Biosecurity and Company Animal Welfare Guidelines.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:Physical: Must use safe lifting techniques. Must regularly lift and/or move, up to 50 pounds items such as bags of shavings, feed buckets, bags of mortality, etc; tools, such as pallet jack, may be required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 2000 pounds such as shavings, etc.( This equates to 2000 to 4000 lbs per week, in five gallon buckets. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand majority of shift on multiple floor surfaces (i.e. concrete floor, shavings); walk; sit; use hands to handle or feel objects and controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; climbing/ladder usage; stoop/bend up to 300 times per day; talk or hear; drive a vehicle within the farm complex. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus.

Environment: Required to work on wet, slippery surfaces and also in hot, dry, dusty, wet and cold environments. House conditions are dusty with excessive darkness majority of the shift. Walking with the aid of a head lamp is required.

Personal Protective Equipment Required: Safety goggles, safety glasses, face shield, chemical gloves, cutting gloves, waterproof apron, and rubber boots are required. Ear plugs will be used as needed. NIOSH approved N95 particulate respirators will be worn as needed.
