Pennsylvania, Pittsburgh, 15201 Pittsburgh USAThe Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiology and Vascular Medicine Institute is seeking a new Associate Professor or Professor of Medicine faculty position. This position will serve as the Associate Director of the Vascular Medicine Institute.Reports To: Director of Vascular Medicine Institute and the Chair of the Department of MedicineQualifications:
PhD, MD, DO, or equivalent
Appointment to the University of Pittsburgh, School of Medicine Faculty at the rank of Associate or Full Professor
Proven track record of extramurally funded research program
Proven administrative capabilities in leading a leading department, division, center, or program
Proven commitment to collaborative research, demonstrated ability at grant writing/acquiring external funding, and mentoring
Administrative Responsibilities:Provide high-level direction and mentoring for researchers on group and individual levels, including establishing pathways for novice researchers to become research-focused faculty. The candidate will provide direct mentorship and support for tenure-stream faculty as it relates to the completion of their metrics required for tenure.Provide strategic oversight for external funding mechanisms, including but not limited to the Institute's partnerships with the Hemophilia Center of Western Pennsylvania and Vitalant. This includes a review of long-term and short-term budget plans.Maximize research funding and productivity in alignment with department goals while maintaining broad awareness of research opportunities and funding, including for pilots and small grants for new researchers.Organize and oversee the review process for the Institute's pilot grant programs.Cultivate a culture of inquiry in which faculty and learners ask and answer practice-based questions and publish their findings; work with leaders in care, education, and faculty affairs to promote a practical and gratifying exercise of scholarship and publication among learners and all faculty, whether primarily identified with research, care, or education.Incorporate and support DEI efforts through VMI programs.Model active research, interacting with other researchers both inside and outside the institution.Assist with the Faculty Evaluation Process, including preparation and joint review, and in some cases primary review of junior faculty.Provide feedback and final decision-making for recruitment in cooperation with the Director and partnering divisions and/or departments.Work with key faculty leaders to advance the programmatic goals of the VMIOversee the VMI mini-cores, sustainability, and accountability to milestones.Promote the recognition of faculty within their areas.Applicants for Associate Professor in the tenure stream or tenured should have five or more years of experience in related scientific research; have independent, external research funding and a substantial record of peer-reviewed publications; have significant teaching experience; and demonstrate the capacity for sustained, impactful, and independent scholarly contributions and leadership.Applicants for professors in the tenure stream or tenured will have served five to seven years as associate professors. The rank of professor recognizes the attainment of authoritative knowledge and reputation in a recognized field of learning and the achievement of effective teaching skills.
