BearCom’s headquarters and distribution center are in Dallas, TX and the company is currently partnered with the industry-renowned Private Equity sponsor Bertram Funds out of San Mateo, California.The Systems Engineer will be responsible for system design and planning for indoor DAS and outdoor Small Cell projects that include but are not limited to, private UHF/VHF, public safety, cellular, and private LTE (CBRS) systems. The Systems Engineer will utilize RF prediction modeling tools such as iBWave and Planet. The Systems Engineer will develop coverage and capacity prediction models and the associated build of materials for customer facilities such as but not limited to sports venues, shopping malls, hospitality, and convention centers, hospitals, universities, office spaces, and transit systems. Solutions will include location assessment, requirements gathering, RF design, technology selection, implementation, integration, and optimization. The Systems Engineer will interface with national and regional engineering teams, technical service operations, sales executives, third-party DAS providers, development teams, and venue owners.RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop end-to-end DAS and Small Cell designs.
  • Utilize site survey results to develop identify requirements for system design, including RF data collection
  • Model indoor propagation and capacity to determine antenna placement and equipment needs
  • Apply link budget analysis, macro design, design standards, traffic analysis
  • Understand and apply requirements for multiple operating systems
  • Develop system equipment and build of materials list
  • Review and approve final RF design construction documents
  • Collect data from post-deployment acceptance testing to ensure requirements are met and update RF model to represent actual propagation performance.
  • Work with third party DAS providers to review existing designs and recommend any design changes
  • Design and integrate communications systems to support our customers’ business requirements.
  • Develop and deliver consolidated user-friendly documentation that includes prediction models with the associated build of materials using standard office applications such as Adobe PDF, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Deliver final as-built design details following receipt of coverage test results.
  • Liaise with sales executives, sales engineers, and other systems engineers.
  • Provide management leadership within the BearCom office to drive efficiencies in all areas of the operations.
  • Ensure assigned projects are running on time and within budget and in alignment with specifications and quality requirements.
  • Manage customer relationships and ensure project confidence.
  • Improve operational systems, processes, and best practices that guarantee organizational well-being.
  • Contribute towards the achievement of the company’s strategic and operational objectives.
  • Interface with sales team regarding the technical design of projects related to two-way radio systems, DAS BDA, Video, and LTE.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • 3-5 years of wireless telecommunications and RF engineering design and deployment experience, ideally with UMTS and LTE technologies.
  • Proven work experience within the Technical Operations, Project Manager or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Experience with DAS or Small Cell Systems design, integration, and optimization experience, ideally working on solutions in high-density environments such as stadiums and arenas
  • Solid understanding of current wireless technologies, e.g. DMR, P25, UMTS, and LTE, including link budgets, relevant switch parameters, time delay considerations, and KPIs.
  • Understanding of RF propagation modeling tools.
  • At least 2 years experience performing desktop design for indoor networks using iBwave propagation tool (iBwave certification required)
  • Experience using outdoor RF modeling tools such as Planet or equivalent.
  • Knowledge and experience with DAS vendors, e.g. CommScope, TE Connectivity, Corning Mobile Access, SOLiD
  • Ability to compare different products technical specifications and determine the most cost-effective solution for the location
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate information and ideas clearly and concisely, in writing and verbally.
  • Ability to investigate and solve complex problems and implement related work improvements with cross-functional team members.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings
  • Ability to use basic office applications: PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Visio, Outlook/Email
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent work experience
  • Good presentation, verbal, and written communication skills are required.
  • Must be able to work under pressure and independently and be able to meet project deadlines for delivering quality solutions on time.
  • Ability to work on cross-functional teams while designing and implementing solutions.
  • Drug screenings and background checks are part of the hiring process which also include a Motor Vehicle Record check.
