Job Description

Role

The incumbent will coordinate the injury prevention efforts within the Ohio Operations. This position will serve as an internal consultant for occupational safety programs, assessments, and communications. The incumbent will also provide assistance to other health and safety team members to help support the integration of all health and safety activities within the mill and outlying facilities.

Accountabilities

· Serves as internal occupational safety consultant to the line organization in developing strategies to control potential safety hazards. Some specific program assignments will include:

Incident reviews; Lockout/tagout (ZEP); Training programs; Industrial truck safety; Overhead and mobile crane safety; Machine guarding; and Personal protective equipment (PPE);

· Supports and/or performs workplace safety assessments for new and modified equipment, work tasks, and safety complaints. Compiles and maintains appropriate records and reports;

· Maintains and provides regulatory injury/illness reports, including OSHA logs, incident files, and periodic reports;

· Provides education to the health and safety staff and line employees on safety and compliance issues;

· Participates in and/or leads incident investigations that involve safety issues; performs root cause analysis; and helps develop action plans that will prevent recurrences. Manages the incident investigation system and monitors/maintains the reports;

· Oversees the OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) programs, including recordkeeping functions, training efforts, and routine program and process reviews and audits;

· Serves as a liaison to regulatory agencies;

· Oversees routine awareness campaigns to help reinforce personal safety performance and cultural change;

· Develops and maintains systems that measure and report on supervisory and area safety performance;

· Supports hourly employee engagement by overseeing area safety team projects, updates, and quarterly meetings.

Qualifications

· Minimum educational requirements: B.S. in Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene and/or a related scientific field (or equivalent experience);

· CSP or the ability to certify;

· Two to five (2-5) years’ experience in the EHS Profession, preferably within manufacturing;

· Strong interpersonal and communication skills;

· Strong computer and project management skills;

· Strong technical skills, including basic calculations and study interpretations;

· Required for on-call status, response to serious incidents, weekend duty, and extended coverage during shutdowns.
