Title: Cost Estimating Engineer/Coordinator

Educational requirements: Associates Degree mandatory, preferably a bachelor’s degree

Reports to: New Business Development Manager

Start Date: Dec 2020

Experience: 3+ years of manufacturing experience, preferably automotive. And, experience with business applications (budget, business plans, quotations)

New Business Development Department Scope New Business Development Department has the responsibility for cost development, product design for manufacturing support, and new material/technologies for all new business opportunities requested by the OEM customer. Responsible for collaboration with the Company’s Exteriors Product, Engineering, Account groups, and OEM Customer technical groups.

Specific Role Summary Responsible for preparing the Internal Request for Quotation document, obtaining costs, and assisting in input of cost data into the Quote Capital Analysis system.

Key Responsibilities
  • Organize / manage quote development from OEM customer “request for quote” packages
  • Assist in breakdown of customer RFQ package
  • Manage internal RFQ package inputs & quote capital meetings
  • Manage tooling RFQ process and compile tooling costs and component costs.
  • Assist in the cost inputs from the CFT & capital from into the “Quote Capital Analysis” system
  • Manage the RFQ CAD Data ensuring availability to internal CFT and Tier IIs
  • Develop and manage component technical drawings (CTD) / Bill of Materials (BOM)
  • Obtain / distribute OEM specifications to CFT
  • Maintain program historical cost information – cost walks
  • Manage component and material cost database.
    • Link between New Business Development and Purchasing groups for Tier II cost development, ensuring transfer of relevant information.
    • Manage PDP gates 0 for quote stage elements – only new business quotes
    • Assist in the management of the QCA process
  • Build Quote Capital Assessment (QCA) with inputs from the CFT
  • Utilize QCA input form – obtain/manage CFT inputs
  • Assist in report out of financial metric to divisional executive team
  • Create the QCA Executive Review Presentation
    • Other special products/responsibilities as assigned

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
    • Computer skills: Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel. Proficient with Microsoft PowerPoint and Word
    • Proficient in CAD software (Spinfire, NX, or CATIA)
    • Ability to interpret drawings
    • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
    • Understanding/experience of plastics injection molding, painting, & secondary assembly processes preferred
    • Good interpersonal communication skills and presentation experience.
    • Must have excellent organizational skills and strong math background
