DescriptionGENERAL SUMMARY AND SCOPEResponsible for the safety and security of all people and property in and around the facilities. The Security Officer will make periodic checks of the properties to insure the safety and security of all persons and properties. The Security Officer is always aware of his/her surroundings, watching for any type of illegal occurrences, fire or other hazardous conditions. Responds to emergency situations to assist parties in need.ESSENTIAL TASKS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESProtects and serves the patients, staff and visitors of FRMC.

Monitors medical center buildings and grounds to maintain a safe and secure environment and takes appropriate action to resolve problems.

Investigates incidents, accidents, or complaints on medical center property.

Completes the necessary reports accurately and in a timely manner. Coordinates with local police and fire departments. Conducts general safety inspections of building & grounds and visual inspections of Life Safety equipment.

Provides physical intervention when needed to subdue or restrain persons to protect individuals from harm. Responds to Code Violet calls. Operates detecting devices and performs searches to screen individuals and prevent passage of prohibited articles into restricted areas.

Warns persons of rule infractions or violations and evicts violators from premises, using force when necessary.  

OTHER TASKS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Administers Breath Alcohol tests. (Completion of DOT Certification required) Inspects fire extinguishers, fire doors, emergency exit lights, panic alarms, and AED’s.

Demonstrates responsibility for continued growth, competence, and development.

Assists patients, visitors and employees. Provides personal assistance, first aid, emotional support or other personal care to others such as coworkers, customers or patients.

Conducts fire and other emergency drills. Participates in department performance improvement activities as assigned and attends required training and staff meetings.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIESHigh school graduate or GED equivalent required.

Prior military, police or security experience preferred. Must achieve Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy certificate for police training or International Association of Healthcare Safety and Security certification within six months of hire.

Must have BAT (Breath Alcohol Technician) certification upon hire or obtained within six months of hire with re-certification every 5 years.

Must have CPR/AED/First Aid certification upon hire or obtained within three months of hire with re-certification every 2 years. Must have Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training upon hire or obtained within six months of hire with re-certification every 2 years.

Must possess a valid State of Ohio motor vehicle operator's license and be insurable under Firelands' auto policy. Employee must provide proof of personal automobile liability insurance coverage upon request.

Must have a telephone and reliable transportation.

Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures and strategies to promote effective security operations for the protection of people, data, property and institutions.

Competency in the use of computers, proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook required. Excellent problem solving skills. Good observation skills necessary.

Ability to work with minimal supervision. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proven dependability and consistency.

Must possess the physical ability to walk long distances, perform in inclement weather, travel between multiple facilities and perform repetitive duties.

Must pass a pre-employment physical including a functional capacity test and must pass a pre-employment background check.

Ability to work in a safe and efficient manner and maintain an accident free work place, including ability to demonstrate a working knowledge of Medical Center emergency codes.

Ability to comply with OSHA regulations and CDC standard and transmission based precaution recommendations and to utilize proper personal protective equipment. Ability to comply with provisions of applicable S.D.S. forms.

Successful completion of a ninety (90) day get-acquainted period.
