The Cyber Effects and Information Warfare (IW) Department (N142) is seeking a part time on call Human Factors Engineering (HFE) Subject Matter Expert SME. The HFE SME will provide project and technical thought leadership across a variety of unclassified and classified projects within N140 and across MNS in support of multiple sponsors. The HFE SME will provide expertise in HFE.This position will require overnight travel up to 5% of the time as well as some local travel.Responsibilities include:The Cyber Effects and Information Warfare (IW) Department (N142) is seeking a Human Factors Engineering Subject Matter Expert. The successful candidate is expected to:Provide Human Factors Engineering and Human Systems Integration technical expertise to the DoD and Joint cyber community in the design of user-facing systems
Provide oversight of software user-interface development applying HFE best practices to ensure enhanced usability and reduce operator workload
Design and conduct usability testing for software applications across programs within DoD and across multiple MITRE programs
Review and provide feedback of training materials and training programs for acquisitions programs
Review and provide feedback on user guides and system documentation on acquisition programs
Work with DoD Labs and other external agencies, and academic institutions to facilitate transition of prototype capabilities to the warfighter
Collaborate with academic institutions on HFE research programs
Participate in internal research and development efforts related to advanced HFE visualization techniques
Publish journal articles or present research at applicable conferences or technical interchange meetings
Provide strong thought/technical leadership for HFE policies, procedures, and projects throughout MITRE
Required Qualifications:BS and 10 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 8 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 5 years’ experience
Possess an Active Top Secret security clearance
Five years of experience with Cyber Systems and/or Cyber Operations
PhD in Human Factors Engineering, Engineering, or related degree
Strong interpersonal skills as well as effective verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrated record of strong collaboration skills
Track record of innovative thinking
Understanding of AF missions and operations
Motivation to expand knowledge and skills and assume responsibility
Ability to work remotely and independently
Preferred Qualifications:Minimum of 25 years of related experience with a PhD Human Factors Engineer or related discipline with relevant experience who can immediately contribute at this job step
Strong knowledge of A&SFC projects and divisions, and broad knowledge of AF cyber operations
20 years of experience working with a diverse technical team
Demonstrated ability to work with sponsors at a senior level to identify key technical problems and opportunities
