Job purpose:

This role has responsibility over field instrumentation, electrical controls system design/documentation, I&C specifications/procurement, machine interface, control system programming, contractor/vendor administrative controls, and commissioning/start-up. This role must be highly collaborative and will also provide assistance to other disciplines and departments on projects/deliverables as appropriate. This role will also contribute to all of the following project phases providing discipline specific technical expertise: Basis Of Design, Functional Descriptions, PFD, P&ID, and System Design. The Senior Controls Engineer will oversee electrical contractors and control cabinet design and construction in addition to field wiring of instruments.

Job Details

Duties and responsibilities:

• Design, configuration, integration and implementation of process control solutions satisfying Basis of Design objectives.

• Assist with development of P&IDs and PFDs for various plants, processes, and/or equipment.

• Develop software and hardware design specifications for instruments, skids or otherwise.

• Design, write, implement, test, and document PLC and HMI software.

• Develop control system validation/testing protocols for any new functionality.

• Specify and procure instrumentation and other related equipment.

• Develop Controls Engineering deliverables from project conception to system turnover. Includes but is not limited to fabrication drawings, schematics, instrument lists, IO lists, instrument data sheets, cause and effect matrixes, control narratives, FAT, SAT.

• Support the buildout and modification of electrical panels/instrumentation as appropriate.

• Manage 3rd party panel shops or contractors as needed.

• Develop scope of supply documents, including specifications, for electrical and controls.

• Manage projects and monitor progress as assigned.

• Install, test, and start-up control systems on-site.

• Train supervisors and engineers (train the trainer) on new or changed control systems.

• Identify deficiencies/improvements in existing equipment and propose solutions as applicable.

• Develop software manuals for deployed systems.

• Assist the ongoing functionality, troubleshooting, and upkeep of systems.

• Development of SCADA systems, Network Topology, and VPN access controls

• May have direct reports of junior engineers and/or electricians

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or equivalentKnowledge of Food Processing and GMP in the Food Space is a strong plusUnderstanding of fluid dynamics and related instrumentation (flow, pressure, temperature)Punctuality with the ability meet timelines and maintain organization across a broad range of responsibilities spanning multiple projects / locations.Must have a strong understanding of project development, document hierarchy, discipline specific documents for Instrumentation & Controls, and configuration management.Experienced and familiar with industry standards of documentation and practices.Industrial control system networking and configuration.Skills:Proficiency in:Rockwell Software for PLC and HMI software development.Historians, Tag Servers, Ethernet, Managed Switches, Gateways.Word, Excel, Access, MS Project or equivalent.

Experience in:

AutoCAD (2-D), Rockwell/Allen Bradley, SQL /SQL platforms.Ignition by Inductive Automation a strong plus.
