Req Number 0038T3Job DescriptionAdministers para-professional nursing care in accordance with objectives and policies of the department. Duties include, but are not limited to, preparing patient for physician/nurse practitioner and/or audiologist. Assists in coordinating organization of patient needs including: preparing and organizing patient medical record.Responsibilities Include:

Performs direct patient care under the physician's/nurse practitioners direct supervision.

Takes and records vital signs, growth measurements, alters physician/ nurse practitioner of any abnormal signs.

Prepares patients for examination and treatment.

Records relevant concerns into medical record.

Assists physician/nurse practitioner/audiologist with examination and treatment.

Explains procedures to be done to patient prior to doing them.

Provides a comfortable and safe environment.

Prepares examining rooms for use assuring necessary supplies and equipment are functioning and available.

Cleans, sets-up, and prepares equipment and supplies for use as well as ensuring integrity of sterilized packages.

Notes malfunctioning equipment and notifies Physician / Nurse Practitioner or Audiologist.

Assists in maintaining order and cleanliness including, but not limited to, cleaning counter tops in bathrooms, examining rooms and ensuring neatness of the waiting room.

Performs controls, as needed. Utilizes log book for documentation. Informs NP/MD of inaccurate controls noted.

Records equipment checks.

Stores supplies and specimens properly per guidelines.

Obtains blood and laboratory specimens, and performs simple tests and EKG procedures within established criteria for age.

Obtains blood/laboratory specimens.

Performs EKGs.

Maintains patient's medical record.

Ensures the organization and sequence of medical records.

Ensures required documentation is available in the medical record (i.e.: lab reports, progress notes).

Places the addressograph stamp (patient identification) on every page of the medical record.

Files records received in the medical record.

Completes the necessary consultation and laboratory documents prior to the patient leaving.

Processes incoming and outgoing communications.

Answers the telephone and screening and/or routing calls.

Takes telephone messages by repeating key information to verify accuracy.

Receives and directs visitors and employees.

Performs general office work.

Completes data entry assignments.

Organizes workload; recognizes and establishes priorities.

Meets deadlines in completing special projects and assignments.

Maintains filing processes.

Distributes reports and correspondence, files, copies and processes forms related to department.

Arranges for duplications of forms and correspondence, as needed and requested.

Schedules and confirms appointments, prepares patient information for billing purposes, enters patient information in computer.

Prepares and distributes statistical report and Quality Management Report.

Prepares and distributes notices to patients, and agreements to organizations.

Maintains a record of services rendered.

Ensures patients are registered prior to examination.

Collects super bills and ensures they are presented to registrars.

Maintains inventory and supplies.

Maintains necessary supplies and updates inventory.

Completes appropriate requisition forms with necessary data to maintain an adequate office supply of materials.

Performs screenings/assist clinical staff in off site programs.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent, required.

Graduate of Medical Assistant Program or equivalent education.

Previous experience as a Medical Assistant, preferred.

Data entry skills (80 keystrokes per minute), required.
