Description: The Experimental Particle Physics Group at New York University invites applications for two post-doctoral research positions to work on the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN.The NYU group’s physics analysis focus has been on Higgs characterization and searches for SUSY and exotics. In addition, the group has institutional responsibilities in the development of tools and techniques for data analysis, analysis preservation/reinterpretation, physics modeling and simulation, MET trigger, and trigger upgrade activities. In addition to our dedicated ATLAS effort, our group is also actively involved in the IRIS-HEP (https://iris-hep.org), which is focusing on software and analysis tools for Run-3 and the HL-LHC. More information about our group can be found at http://physics.nyu.edu/experimentalparticle/group.html.The positions could be based at CERN, at NYU, or some mix. The successful candidates will work with our group’s graduate students and spend approximately half time on physics analysis and the other half time contributing to institutional responsibilities. One of the two positions will involve contributing to the NYU group's work on the ATLAS trigger. The group led the higher level MET trigger work for several years, played a key role in upgrading trigger analysis software for LHC Run II, and played a major role in Run II trigger operations. The group plans to continue its work in support of the Run III trigger, but also to participate in trigger development for the LHC luminosity upgrade. The second position will involve contributions to one of the other aspects of the group's interests and institutional responsibilities discussed above.Applicants should have both a solid understanding of LHC physics and strong technical skills appropriate to one of the institutional responsibilities listed above. Applicants should include a statement of research interests and interest in the institutional responsibilities listed above. We will begin reviewing applications on February 1, 2021 and continue until the positions are filled.Job Summary: Conduct research, prepare and present reports research, and contribute to the group’s effort within the ATLAS experiment. The Benefits Overview for full-time Professional Research Staff employees can be found by visiting the following web site: http://www.nyu.edu/employees/benefit/full-time.html.Application close date: March 1
