A nutritional clerk is responsible for communicating with patients, visitors, and staff about the menus and the procedures of the Department of Nutritional Services. He/she must possess knowledge of general nutrition and the food service operation and be able to relay this information in a helpful and courteous manner. He/she ensures that patients receive food in accordance with nutrition orders and individual allergies/preferences; maintains menus by collecting patient selections; efficiently modifying menus; communicating with patients, visitors and staff courteously in a busy office setting; acts as a liaison between the clinical nutrition, food service, and nursing; and responsible for processing information coming into the department via the computer system regarding patient care.A nutritional clerk must possess adequate language skills for counseling to be able to complete menus correctly; excellent time management and organization skills needed; experience in a Nutritional Services Dept in a health care facility or related activity is preferred, so that there is knowledge of basic diets and tray line procedures; also must know how to work on the tray line and fill in for nutritional aides when necessary.
