Reporting to the Sr. Director, Application Services, Enterprise Applications Platform; the Technical Product Manager, Student Information Systems (SIS) - Development is responsible for leading, managing and coordinating the development and deployment of new components developed on the SIS applications platform, including but not limited to, Registration and Enrollment, Student and Advisor Planning, and Student Financial Services. The Technical Product Manager must possess strong technical background to ensure they are designing modular & scalable web components, and must have experience leading large cross-organizational software development projects and have a well-rounded technical background in current web and micro-service technologies. This is a highly visible and strategic role that requires a proven ability to cultivate and maintain relationships, maintain high support standards and have excellent process and technology knowledge.The Technical Product Manager will take negotiated Epics and work with development team to expand to features and user stories. The Technical Product Manager will work with other Technical Product Managers to facilitate the overall development and support of the Student Information System.Responsibilities

  • Lead an agile cross functional development team to release code for new features, supporting operations and defect resolution
  • Create and maintain technical requirements for products and features; create epics, stories and acceptance criteria for engineering team to develop products and features.
  • Works in an Agile environment to refine business requirements work with architects to define and lay out system interfaces and data flows, prioritizes work for scrum team
  • Drive product strategy, roadmap and release plans
  • Ability to work well with internal technical teams, including developers, engineers, architects, quality assurance, and operations. Ensure requirements are fully understood and development matches expectations.
  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert in self-care customer communications and management
  • Works with business partners to balance business & technical objectives and technology partners to deliver the product that meets reliability, scalability, and performance goals
  • Application ownership including but not limited to application continuity and resiliency, problem and incident management, compliance activities.
  • Analyzes changes to complex, interrelated systems that cross multiple platforms to fulfill complicated requirements, improve performance or reduce costs of ownership.
  • Focus on data analysis to assist in data driven recommendations and solutions.
  • Acts as a catalyst for change to improve processes that benefit the IT organization and the University.
  • Participates in the team "on-call" rotations, occasionally requiring after-hours and weekend work.
  • Participate in major incident response efforts, occasionally requiring after-hours and weekend work.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent required. Advanced degree desirable.
  • Minimum 5-7 years’ related experience.
  • Experience owing product development lifecycle from roadmap creation to product delivery.
  • Experience working with engineering teams, facilitating technical conversations and helping breakdown large features into right size user stories.
  • Knowledge of relational databases: MySQL, Aurora/RDS, MS SQLServer.
  • Experience with cloud architectures, experience with containers, microservices and AWS.
  • Knowledge of AWS Lambda, ElasticSearch, Cloud9, SumoLogic
  • Knowledge of Python/Django, Angular (or another JS Framework), Kafka, SQS/SNS.
  • Basic broad technical skills, including familiarity with SQL structured queries, version control such as Git, ETL pipelines, JIRA, ServiceNow.
  • Experience with developing and supporting large complex systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.
  • Demonstrated excellence in a variety of competencies including teamwork/collaboration, analytical thinking, communication and influencing skills, and technical expertise.
  • Ability to work with changing priorities and with multiple projects.
  • Ability to work weekend and off-hour work on occasion.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 3-5 years’ Higher Education and/or Student Information Systems experience.
  • Prior experience working with student/faculty related technologies.
  • Prior experience working within a DevOps environment.
