Description of Responsibilities:

The individual who occupies this position has a certification in physical education.

The Physical Education Teacher is responsible for participating in the planning and implementation of physical education activities, monitoring student progress, and evaluating student outcomes. Physical Education in the New York Child Learning Institute generally emphasizes sports-related skills, movement patterns, games, and Fitness activities. The Physical Education Teacher collects child-performance. He or she is responsible for communicating with all parties involved in the education of the student. The Physical Education Teacher serves on special committees on a volunteer basis.

Essential Job Functions:

Prepare/set up gym equipment to beginning class each day.

Provide an atmosphere and environment conducive to the physical, social, and emotional development of students.

Participate in the implementation of lessons plans, providing for appropriate learning experiences for each student.

Establish and enforce rules of conduct; supervise students in the gymnasium.

Demonstrate skills being taught; assist students in performing skills.

Teach safety rules related to each activity

Assess fitness levels

Research, and order physical education and recess equipment.

Monitor and evaluate student skill levels and outcomes.

Maintain student records following established procedures and practices.

Participate in the preparation of interim progress reports.

The Physical Education Teacher will assist the special education certified teacher in identifying appropriate education goals for learners, designing individualized treatment and education programs, analyzing performance data to assess the effectiveness of instructional procedures, and preparing written progress reports. The Physical Education Teacher will also assist in developing response definitions, data-collection procedures, or teaching procedures as needed to assure continued learner progress.

The Physical Education Teacher will participate in all staff meetings, staff development training sessions, and in-services. The Physical Education Teacher will participate in all performance evaluations. These evaluations include a colleague evaluation and a personal performance evaluation. Responses targeted for personal performance evaluation include:

professionalism; on-task; providing opportunities to response; providing behavior-descriptive praise; teaching new skills; teaching social competence; relationship building; decreasing problem behavior; understanding intervention technology; and maintaining the physical environment.

The Physical Education Teacher will: maintain confidentiality about learner's treatment goals and progress, and protect learner's anonymity in all presentations; maintain professional relationships and a professional interaction style with colleagues, program personnel, learners and their representatives, and members of the community at large; and protect

and extend the reputation of the program.
