Interested in standing up a new section focused on prototyping cutting-edge communication and positioning, navigation and timing (PNT) systems that will drive future acquisition programs for Aerospace's customers in Albuquerque? Then this role in the Digital Communication Implementation Department (DCID), under The Aerospace Corporation's Communication Technologies and Engineering Division (CTED), is the ideal landing spot for your next career move. CTED focuses on main-mission communication satellites, wideband links, command and telemetry, and terrestrial networks, along with their enabling technologies. The division comprises all aspects, from architectures to implementation; our engineers work directly with corporate customers to ensure robust and resilient communications.

DCID uses software-defined radios and FPGA technology to develop advanced communication and navigation system prototypes (GNSS, PNT, GPS, etc.) that solve the toughest problems related to digital communication systems. DCID's support includes guiding the acquisition of next generation communication and navigation systems needed by our customer, helping industry implement cutting edge technology and creating innovative solutions to our customers' most challenging problems. Our group supports exciting programs such as the Aerospace CubeSat SlingShot Platform , development of the Payload Characterization and Environments (PACE) Lab , and compete in challenges such as the Blind Signal Classification Challenge . What You'll Be Doing
  • Stand up a new section within DCID to support our customers at our Albuquerque location
  • Identify critical customer needs unique to the site and building a team to develop capabilities to meet those needs
  • Provide technical leadership, deliver detailed signal analyses, prototype hardware designs and communication system assessments via briefings and/or technical reports to customers and colleagues
  • Research pertaining to advanced signal processing, GPS/GNSS technology and/or re-configurable communication systems
  • Develop and implement advanced signal processing algorithms with applications to GPS/GNSS receivers, communication transceivers and/or digital signal processing primarily on re-configurable platforms
  • Lead recruitment, hiring, performance evaluation and development of junior staff members
  • Manage site resources and associated staff tasking

What You Need to be Successful

Minimum Requirements:
  • Minimum of 5-years of experience in relevant industry experience
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related field
  • Experience leading a communications system development effort , including the ability to propose new projects, gain funding to support staff within the department and guide tasking throughout the project to meet deliverables - The candidate must also be a true force multiplier that is able to lead and mentor our junior staff
  • Laboratory experience troubleshooting digital hardware designs using logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, oscilloscope, and other standard test equipment
  • Familiarity with one or more of the following: Software Frameworks for Software Defined Radios (SDR) such as GNU Radio, Embedded System Architecture, RF Design, Spectrum Management, GPS/GNSS and other localization technologies/concepts
  • Proficiency in one or more of the following languages: MATLAB, Python, or C/C
  • Willing to travel as needed
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Security Clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

How You Can Stand Out

It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:
  • MS or PhD degree from an accredited program in Communication Theory and Digital Signal Processing or another related field
  • Able to work in a dynamic environment, guiding and executing taskings for small teams of engineers on several projects within a technical focus area
  • Theoretical understanding and practical experience with modern communication and digital signal processing techniques
  • Experience developing payloads for CubeSats
  • Operational experience with military communication systems
  • Active US government security clearance at SECRET or TS/SCI
