Job Description
This position involves overseeing the quality lab operations as well as assisting the production facility in ensuring programs and procedures are in place and properly followed to maintain the highest level of quality products and services to Stratas Foods customers.
Quality Assurance Lab Supervisor Responsibilities:1. Responsible for day-to-day operation of the lab; on call 24/7 for lab/production issues
2. Hire, coach, counsel, mentor, and provide annual and ongoing training of techs. Perform annual performance appraisals of all Lab Techs.
3. Create and administer the test for all Lab Tech positions
4. Perform internal and external proficiency testing with Lab Techs
5. Analyze lab needs from training, staffing, and equipment needs
6. Organize and conduct weekly lab meetings
7. Review and sign off on employee timecards
8. Yearly chemical monitoring of lab techs
9. Investigate deviations, review batch sheets, etc., approval of deviation if warranted
10. Manage hold and near miss program. Perform CAPA’s on product issues with support of management team.
11. Represent the Lab at all daily production and management meetings
12. Fill in for the QA Manager and Sanitation Supervisor as needed
13. Troubleshoot, maintenance, and repair of lab equipment
14. Product approval in IBM and TLC as necessary
15. Responsible for GMP training and lab safety
16. Review daily planner, TLC, Wonderware to determine what products are ready to pack, any special circumstances techs need to be aware of.
17. Enter daily hazardous waste into master data base
18. Collect and send samples as per customer specific requirements
19. Schedule preventative maintenance (PMs) for all lab equipment and sensitive production equipment (pH meters, scales, metal detectors, etc).
20. Update specification books as specifications change
21. Write new procedures and update procedure books
22. Participate in customer and third party audits
23. Determine lab equipment needs; write capital requests when needed
24. Production line paperwork review, product loss and product approval in Quality Assurance Manger’s absence
25. Review line paperwork (weight sheets, line QA, and metal detection includes PCQI sign off)
26. Review PR1 (production) analysis. Transfers samples in TLC (approving product to ship)
27. Be an active member of the Food Safety, Food Defense and Safety Teams.
Qualifications
Education:High School diploma is required with desired experience. Bachelor’s Degree is preferred in operations, technical, business or engineering; or relevant experience. Related Experience:Experience with lab and/or quality assurance in food packaging is preferred. Three to five years of supervisory/leadership experience is required. Equipment/Software Skills: Must be PC literate with working knowledge of MS Office, and Outlook Competencies: 1. Must possess strong leadership ability and self motivation 2. Strong organizational skills to maintain multiple programs 3. Good communication skills and teamwork in working with plant personnel to accomplish goals 4. Additional Information
Physical:Must be able to climb stairs, sit and stand for long periods; type for long periods of time. Sensory: Good Listening Skills; Public speaking abilities to communicate with both hourly and salaried personnel. Mental/Reasoning:Must be able to perform root cause analysis and corrective action.
