Roles and Responsibilities:
Reviews requests for family leave, conducts research into issues to ensure compliance with the Family Leave Acts and NJ TRANSIT policy, determines actions required to process request, and prepares correspondence to Rail agreement employees. Maintains liaison with external regulatory agencies (i.e. U.S. Department of Labor, NJ Department of Civil Rights) to ensure compliance with the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and New Jersey's Family Leave Act (FLA). Receives, records and tracks family leave requests, ensuring documents are properly processed through to completion. Notifies field supervision of employee's coverage under the act(s), anticipated frequency/duration, and provides advice in matters related to the application of FMLA/FLA.
Receives and records family leave requests, ensuring documents are correctly completed. Maintains computer FMLA Tracking System, including establishing FMLA case files for each request, ensuring that proper employee notifications are completed in the required time frames and ensuring confidentiality is strictly maintained.
Performs re-certifications of family leave of employees after review of leave usage in comparison to leave approval to ensure compliance and prevent abuse of family leave, as per legal requirements for re-certification.
Provides training and guidance to Rail Operations supervisory staff in the proper application of FMLA/FLA. Works with field supervision to ensure employees covered by FMLA/FLA are in compliance with the regulations.
Monitors Rail agreement workforce absenteeism to identify trends, and makes recommendations for control. Provides analysis and recommendations to manage the program effectively. Monitors Rail employees on long-term disability to ensure compliance with NJ TRANSIT Medical Leave Policy, avoid abuse and minimize monetary loss to NJ TRANSIT.

Acts as point person for Rail Operations, in coordination with Human Resources, for requests for reasonable accommodations by Rail employees relating to issues arising under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Performs additional administrative/support functions, as directed by the Rail FMLA Manager.
Education, Experience, and Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related area or equivalent
Experience with family leave laws relating to FMLA/NJFLA
Knowledge of collective bargaining agreements and understanding of basic medical terminology desirable
