Boeing is seeking an Aircraft Configuration Engineer to join the Sustainability & Future Mobility team in Long Beach, CA, in a virtual capacity.

Our team is currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including; Mid-Level, Lead, and Senior Level Configuration Design Engineers.

The Sustainability & Future Mobility team is helping create strategic objectives for the enterprise to be a leader in addressing sustainability challenges and the roadmap of technology development required to get there. The team serves as a nexus between Global Enterprise Sustainability and Boeing Research & Technology development to direct and implement technology development according to sustainability objectives. The S&FM team is looking for candidates who are passionate about applying new technologies to meet sustainability goals leveraging rapid advances in energy, power, and autonomy technologies to connect the world with safe & sustainable air transportation.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Synthesizes conceptual/preliminary aerospace/aeronautical vehicles
  • Creates vehicle configuration designs from customer requirements
  • Leads multi-discipline design cycle and performs trade studies to assess design space, structural adequacy, cost effectiveness and regulatory requirements
  • Supports development of aerospace/aeronautical vehicle requirements (e.g., range, payload, operating and lifecycle cost)
  • Conceptual design and analysis of novel aircraft, including the application of new technologies or configurations
  • Leading a team of experts across multiple organizations to perform multidisciplinary analysis and optimization
  • Aircraft sizing to mission requirements, including model development
  • Communication of results to internal stakeholders, and external customers
  • Researching and applying new technologies to reduce the environmental impact of current and future products
  • Trains and mentors others
  • Works under minimal direction

This position has been identified as a virtual opportunity and does not require applicants to live in Long Beach, CA.

The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a "US Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. "US Person" includes , lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • Bachelor, Master, or Doctorate from an accredited course of study in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or Chemistry
  • 3+ years of experience with aircraft design and configuration
  • Experience using excellent verbal and written communication skills to communicate with leaders and colleagues

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • 5+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 10+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience leading teams performing conceptual and preliminary aircraft designs reviewed by internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience in aircraft systems (electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, data)
  • Experience effectively at bringing diverse stakeholders together to accomplish common goals
  • Capable of conveying complex engineering information to diverse audiences, including non-technical stakeholders, including customer engagement

Typical Education/Experience:

Mid-Level (Level 3)

Bachelor's degree and typically 5 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a Master's degree with typically 3 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a PhD degree with experience in an engineering classification. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Lead (Level 4)

Bachelor's degree and typically 9 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a Master's degree with typically 7 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a PhD degree with typically 4 or more years' experience in an engineering classification. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Senior (Level 5)

Bachelor's degree typically 14 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a Master's degree with typically 12 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a PhD degree with typically 9 or more years' experience in an engineering classification. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Summary pay range for Mid-Level: $69,300 - $128,170

Summary pay range for Lead: $84,420 - $156,780

Summary pay range for Senior: $102,690 - $190,710
