Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Product Manager to partner with a team of data engineers in building a data discovery platform and scaling its use across Etsy. This position is a new role in a growing Platform Product org.

At Etsy, data is essential to everything we do. We've seen rapid growth over the past few years, and we have a lot of it. This Senior PM will be responsible for understanding how data is found, trusted, analyzed, and used to build outstanding experiences for our customers. They’ll use that knowledge to develop a discovery platform that empowers our engineers, analysts, and data scientists to easily find and utilize the data they need at any given time. This is a full-time position located (eventually) in Brooklyn, NY reporting to the Director of Product Management. We offer flexible workplace policies that can accommodate work from home candidates who are comfortable traveling to an office location 2-3 times per week.

  • Determine the path forward for Data Discovery at Etsy, and build the platforms and tooling to support that vision
  • Define methods and metrics for measuring the success of the platform, and communicate those metrics with senior leadership
  • Work closely with engineering counterparts, translating requirements from product, engineering, and analytics users into technical needs for the discovery platform
  • Partner with legal, compliance, and trust & safety teams to understand their data discovery needs regarding NPI, PII, and other private data types
  • Provide structure to this large, complex space, and identify iterative steps that add new value early and often for data users, while still heading towards a long term vision
  • Of course, this is just a sample of the kinds of work this role will require! You should assume that your role will encompass other tasks, too, and that your job duties and responsibilities may change from time to time at Etsy's discretion, or otherwise applicable with local law.

Qualifications

  • Experience as a Platform Product Manager working in a data or technology-heavy role, including crafting the vision and strategy for platforms or services
  • A track record of leading engineering teams to build data systems or platforms, with a deep understanding of the role data infrastructure plays for an organization
  • The ability to understand the needs of internal customers (internal Etsy engineers and analysts) AND their customers (Etsy buyers and sellers), to spot common trends and shared needs
  • Confidence to participate in very technical conversations, and to challenge engineering and analyst peers when appropriate
  • Success sharing timelines, trade-offs, and risks with a broad and senior leadership group
  • A passion for new and emerging data technologies, and an ear to industry trends
  • Bonus: hands-on experience building data workflows or platforms
  • A trust in and commitment to Etsy’s vision, mission and values.
