Job Summary:
A Journeyman Carpenter must have the skills and knowledge to operate all hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment. They must be able to understand the materials and procedures for advanced building techniques and perform all carpentry work necessary for custom residential construction from breaking ground to punch list completion. A Journeyman Carpenter must be capable of leading and developing a crew of Apprentice Carpenters and Carpenter’s Helpers.

Job Qualifications:
Education: Minimum of High School Diploma or equivalent, College degree preferred
Experience: Minimum 5 years full time carpentry construction experience required and minimum 2+ years in high end custom residential carpentry preferred
Safe Lifting: Use proper lifting techniques when moving lumber and other materials. Always ask for assistance when moving heavy items.
PPE: Always wear personal protective gear such as ear protection, safety glasses, and gloves on the job.
Driving: Must have valid Driver License
A similar combination of both education and experience will be considered
Preferred Skills and Abilities:
Construction Aptitude Skills: Strength, Stamina, Hand Eye Coordination, Attention to Detail, Problem Solving Skills, Mathematics/Geometry, Mechanically inclined, Organizational skills.
Journeyman Carpentry Skills: Perform advanced layout and be competent in performing all facets of construction from frame to finish carpentry including, hand framed roofs, stairs, log and timber work and windows and doors. Be competent in performing concrete, architectural and structural steel erection and install, thermal and moisture installations, cabinetry, drywall and finishes. Understand and perform all phases of construction in the most efficient way.
Construction Document Interpretation: Able to read blueprints and cross reference schedules and details to find all needed information
Mission Statement:
Understand all aspects of a project, including needs of other trades, in order to complete scopes of work assigned by Foreman/Superintendent within BRB’s safety, quality, and productivity standards, while providing guidance and supervision to Apprentice Carpenters and Carpenter’s Helpers. Develop team members through teaching daily operations, construction techniques and BRB’s safety, quality, and productivity standards.
Objectives
Support Foreman/Superintendent in leading crew teams while acquiring necessary tools (per BRB tool list) and learning leadership and planning role (per BRB skills and competencies list).

Ensure BRB Standards are met in: Safety, Quality, Productivity, and Leadership
Safety: Ensure safety & cleanliness of job site
Always use proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and be safe
Ensure proper guardrails/handrails are erected and that slippery conditions and other hazards are remedied immediately
Keep the job site and trailer clean and organized, floors swept, debris consolidated, and keep extension cords, air hoses and tools organized.
Serve as member of Safety Committee learning BRB Safety Program
Recognize near misses and safety hazards, address near misses and safety hazards to ensure jobsite remains safe and all accidents are avoided, alert Foreman/Superintendent or Safety Committee of unsafe conditions
Quality: Ensure protection of completed work/material
Keep all lumber/material piles neat, covered, and stacked level
Protect finished surfaces (rosin paper/plywood/etc.)
Stake all ground penetrations/sewer cleanouts/culverts/etc.
Set example for subcontractors in site cleanliness
Uphold and perform BRB preferred installation methods and tolerances
Ensure manufacturer’s recommended installation methods are followed
Understand air, moisture and vapor barrier importance and proper installation.
Productivity: Assist with job site productivity & cleanliness
Scaffold erection/Material staging (in an accessible location)
Perform required building tasks as called for in layout and as directed by Foreman/Superintendent. Guide Carpenter’s Helpers and Apprentice Carpenters as needed to complete building tasks.
Keep company and personal tools cleaned, oiled, and in a good state of repair. Assist with equipment inspection/lubrication (i.e. forklift, genie)
Understand work planning and stay busy at all times
Operating equipment when efficient
Be prepared and on time every day
Leadership: Show strong leaderships skills and abilities within the BRB team and amongst subcontractors and set an example for all employees on the crew
Provide guidance and supervision for Apprentice Carpenters and Carpenter’s Helpers as necessary.
Teach, train and develop Carpenter’s Helpers to become an Apprentice Carpenters and Apprentice Carpenters to become Journeymen Carpenters
