St. Louis based hedge fund that primarily invests in commodity futures, equities, and options. The firm is seeking to hire a Research Analyst to support its significant growth.

Job Overview:The ideal candidate for this position is a talented researcher with programming skills and interest in the financial markets. The Research Analyst will work with the equity portfolio manager and assist with projects at their direction. Responsibilities will be primarily focused on developing and improving systematic strategies, as well as helping to support the data infrastructure for the organization. The Research Analyst will need the flexibility to participate at all levels of the organization, from operational to analytical to tactical and strategic.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Strategy Development
    • Analyze data to identify new systematic opportunities (e.g. historical/seasonal patterns, consistent mispricing between instruments)
    • Improve existing strategies through incorporation of new data, feature engineering, and model improvement
    • Write and maintain code in R to run backtests of current and new strategies
  • Strategy Execution
    • Build and improve data intake pipelines
    • Refactor existing code for efficiency, cleanliness, speed
  • Data management
    • Write code to interface with advanced data-provider APIs
    • Analyze and scrub new data sets to remove any errors
    • Maintain R code used to download, store and scrub data
    • Contact vendors to obtain quotes to purchase new data sets and troubleshoot issues
  • Fund operations
    • Assist in improving middle and back office duties as needed

Ideal Qualifications:We understand that different candidates will bring different strengths, and we are willing to do on-the-job training for someone with the right underlying intellectual horsepower.
  • Bachelor’s degree with strong academic performance in math, computer science, engineering, hard sciences, or social sciences, or equivalent work experience. Masters/PhD preferred, and will be compensated appropriately.
  • 1+ years programming experience (R, Python, Matlab, Java, or C; 3+ years preferred)
  • 2+ years of experience in a data analyst, research assistant, or similar role
  • Ability to effectively communicate project updates and findings
  • Personal or professional experience trading stocks
  • An entrepreneurial spirit, including the ability to work independently, learn quickly, develop creative solutions, eliminate barriers and deliver results, often starting from scratch
  • Curious with a deep desire to learn
