May require a bachelor's degree in area of specialty and experience in the field or in a related area. Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Works under immediate supervision. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. 1-3 Years of ExperienceThis position is in Precision Genomics' St. Louis Production Genotyping lab. The candidates will be working collaboratively with a large production team of FTE's and contractors to deliver daily and weekly genotyping targets under tight deadlines. Responsibilities include a variety of manual and automated tasks in DNA extraction, PCR setup, and sequencing library creation.Three roles are open for the following subteams/shifts:Extraction lab: Monday - Thursday, 2pm-midnight. Must be able to lift 40 lbs.PCR lab: Monday - Friday, 2pm-10pmLibrary Creation (sequencing) lab: Sunday - Thursday, 2pm-10pm (Sunday hours flexible)

Desired skills for the ideal candidate:1. Demonstrate reliability: This is a business-critical position to keep our lab running 7 days a week across multiple shifts. The candidate must be a reliable presence on this shift. Position may require flexible or off shift hours during peak times.2. High Throughput/production/sample management: Our lab processes 2+ million samples per year with fast turn-around times. Any experience handling a large number of samples daily (lab, etc.), or in a fast-paced environment (retail, food service, etc.) is a plus. Experience with LIMS is a plus.3. Automation/mechanical aptitude: The candidate must be comfortable running and troubleshooting automation independently with little guidance on this shift. Biologists with engineering/technical aptitudes are encouraged to apply.

•What is a day like in this role?Performs laboratory technical tasks. Responsible for the operation, care and maintenance of automation and other laboratory equipment. Daily responsibilities include the grinding and preparation of samples. Will be expected to assist with receipt and inspection of raw materials, ordering and stocking.

•What 3-5 responsibilities will occupy their time?Processing samples through production workflows by operation of manual and automated lab equipment, prepping and stocking lab consumables, sample prep.

•Who will this person work with on a daily basis?Primarily 2 FTEs and 2-3 contractors working this same lab area and shift.

•Tell me about the team dynamic/culture.A large team of about 45 people across multiple shifts, nights and weekends; around 40% contractors. Team dynamic is outgoing, productive, results orientated, and strong communication between shifts. The team performs a high volume of work in a casual atmosphere.

•What are the 'must haves' to be successful in this role?Attention to detail, strong work ethic, sense of urgency, excellent communication skills, good organizational skills, ability to make decisions independently. Candidates with experience in fast-paced settings (even non-lab related; i.e. restaurants/ retail/ shipping) are usually high performers on our team.

•What is the long term plan for the role?We maintain a large contingent workforce and extend to longer-term roles (1-2+ years), if the candidate performs well in the position. We often cross-train or shift candidates to roles within different sub-teams in the production lab. Opportunities to interview for FTE positions may arise within the team.
