As a Principal Android Engineer on the Flagship Buy mobile team you will:
  • Influence and contribute to engineering initiatives and practices at the enterprise (Target Tech) level
  • Collaborate with other engineers across products and domains to continually improve the android development standards and practices at Target Tech
  • Be a thought leader and mentor for internal and external technical talent and actively contribute to the external technical community
  • Work with engineering leaders to build a high performing engineering team and provide technical leadership, coaching, motivation and participate in the selection of technical talent.
  • Work closely with our product, UX, and API teams to implement an intuitive, coherent, and engaging user experience
  • Ensure high quality, stable, and performant code
  • Perform code and design reviews that guarantee code quality
  • Evaluate and communicate different engineering solutions and trade-offs
  • Develop clean, well-tested native Android code to deliver functionality that meets business objectives
  • Identify long-term tech opportunities that bring value and develop a roadmap for future work to ensure continued product health and innovation

About you:
  • 4 year degree or equivalent experience. Continuing education to maintain thorough knowledge of technical domains along with staying current in latest technologies
  • 10+ years of experience in technology development or services
  • 4+ years of experience in strategic planning and setting technical direction
  • 5 years of experience developing apps for Android
  • Experience developing in Kotlin
  • Possesses a strong understanding of the Android framework and ecosystem
  • Experience with Android application development tools, including Android Studio, Android SDK and ADT
  • Has demonstrated success in solving complex technical problems in more than one technical or functional areas
  • Understands business fundamentals and how technologies can support business goals along with how to translate business vision into a technical strategy while understanding the financial implications
  • Has proven leadership capabilities, the ability to influence others, interpersonal skills, and problem solving skills
  • Strong team player who understands concepts of teamwork and team effectiveness.
  • Has excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills to convey complex technical solutions clearly to an organization
  • Has excellent planning and organizational skills

Desired Requirements:
  • Experience building mobile frameworks/libraries
  • Strong experience of multi-threading and memory management specific to mobile devices
  • Experience with experimentation and A/B analysis of features
  • Experience with distributing mobile applications via public app stores and/or enterprise channels
  • Experience with integrating calls to backend services (REST or GraphQL, using JSON etc)
  • Experience integrating with third party frameworks tools and SDKs, such as Retrofit, OKHttp, Moshi and Glide
  • Experience working with the following technologies:
  • Reactive Programming (ideally via RxJava)
  • Dependency injection (ideally via Dagger or Hilt)
  • Android architecture components (ideally MVVM experience)
  • Experience with multiple levels of users (anonymous v authenticated)
  • Experience with Accessibility
  • Experience with continuous delivery in mobile, including Test- or Behavior-Driven Design, code review, static analysis, continuous integration, automation and functional testing.

Location:

This position may be considered for a Full-Time Remote or Hybrid work arrangement based on Target's needs. A Hybrid work arrangement means the team members core role will be a blend of virtual and onsite at a Target location. A Full-Time Remote work arrangement means the team member works full-time from home or an alternate location that's not a Target location, does not have a desk at their primary HQ work location and may travel to HQ up to 4 times a year.

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada residents is $137,500 to $247,500. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, Target cares about and invests in you as a team member, so that you can take care of yourself and your family.
