Position Summary :

Assures that quality nursing care is rendered to allpatients in accordance with the MichiganNurse Practice Act, McLaren Lapeer Region, and nursing department standards.

Utilizing the nursing process, functions primarily in direct patient care.Participates in maintaining a safe patient care environment.

Maintains patientprivacy, dignity, confidentiality, and respects patient rights. Beginsleadership and preceptor participation when performance demonstrates ability.

Essential Functionsand Responsibilities :

1.Provides professional nursing care directly to patients

2.Administers medication to patients as directed

3.Initiates and monitors IV’s and IV medication

4.Assesses patient condition using vital signs, test results, monitor readings, etc.

5.Interacts with physicians and charge nurse regarding patient condition

6.Prepares patient and equipment for medical procedures as required

7.Interacts with patient families regarding patient condition

8.Provide emotional support and reassurance to patients and patient families

9.Performs patient teaching duties including discharge planning, medication reconciliation, etc.

10.Consults reference materials as needed

11.Initiates, develops, and maintains nursing plan of care

12.Performs other department related duties as assigned

Qualifications :

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing

Must possess valid State of Michigan Nursing License

BLS certified within 3 months of hire

ACLS certification within 6 months of hire

Knowledge of age specific needs of the adult and geriatric patient being served

Minimum 1 year previous experience as a Medical / Surgical or critical care RN or LPN, OR other Medical Center related experience (Student Nurse Tech, Nurse Aide, Unit Clerk, etc.)

Possesses excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate and present self to patient, visitors other staff and physicians verbally and in writing in courteous, confident and professional manner

Preferred :

Previous clinical experience in Critical Care Unit (ICU, CCU, ER, OR)

BLS Certification
