job summary:

• The Senior Discovery Specialist is responsible managing the ServiceNow Discovery and Application/Service Mapping lifecycles along with their associated technologies to ensure an accurate and reliable CMDB. They are the subject matter expert (SME) for infrastructure discovery and application service mapping. They will work closely with other technology SMEs to build and maintain accurate application service maps. Design, develop, and implement custom patterns, probes, and sensors to achieve a complete and accurate discovery of infrastructure components and application services.

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related degree, or equivalent education/experience
• Five years of relevant experience including three years supporting enterprise-level platform installations
• ServiceNow Certified Implementation Specialist - Discovery
• Knowledge of Amazon Web Services (AWS), including leveraging EC2, EBS, S3, RDS, and Cloud formation services in an enterprise production environment
• Knowledge of Windows Server administration, Active Directory, LDAP, Single-Sign-on, authentication, user and group policy objects, and permission levels
• Knowledge of UNIX or Linux Server administration, including user permission levels, SUDO virtualization, including VMware, containerization, and Docker, Kubernetes, or OpenShift
• Knowledge of all aspects of infrastructure devices (i.e., server, network device, network protocols, application technologies, operating systems basics)
• Experience with the ServiceNow CMDB and Discovery and how it supports other ITSM processes (e.g.: Incident, Problem, Change, and Asset Mgt.)

• Design, deploy, and manage CMDB data management tools including Discovery and Service Mapping solutions for both on-premises and cloud resources.
• Ensure that discovery and service mapping products are highly available, reliable, and performant.
• Create and maintain custom patterns, probes, and sensors to accommodate internal discovery requirements.
• Implement and manage CMDB data integrations with other data sources using import sets, transform maps, API integrations, and the Identification and Reconciliation Engine.
• Establish and maintain discovery schedules.
• Monitor discovery and service mapping results, reconciling and addressing any anomalies.
• Proactively plan capacity of ServiceNow MID servers and maintains and configures appropriately.
• Work with Service Owners and SMEs to ensure that accurate service maps are discovered and maintained.
• Participate in platform upgrade planning, testing, and validation.
• Write and/or review system specifications, including output requirements, flow charts and technical diagrams.
• Support the development, documentation, implementation, and maintenance of CMDB & Discovery governance processes, procedures, and policies
• Define, create, and monitor CMDB health reports, dashboards, and other reports that support auditing and compliance of CMDB management.
• May participate in projects including preparing project plans, assigning tasks, monitoring statuses, coordinating efforts, validating team recommendations, integrating efforts into a comprehensive strategy and delivering results on time.
