Job Description

About This Role

Spinal muscular atrophy, SMA, is a rare, genetic, neuromuscular disease that is characterized by loss of motor neurons in the spinal cord and lower brain stem, resulting in severe and progressive muscle atrophy and weakness. About 1 in 10,000 live births have a diagnosis of SMA, resulting in approximately 400 newborn babies diagnosed each year in the U.S. alone. Ultimately, individuals with SMA can lose the ability to walk and have difficulty performing the basic functions of life, such as breathing and swallowing, which results in significant healthcare intervention and caregiver assistance.

This position offers an extraordinary opportunity in a therapeutic area with high unmet needs, and will be responsible for effectively executing against brand strategies and driving engagement to HCPs that treat and manage disease in patients suffering from SMA.

Qualifications

The idea candidate will be an experienced individual with a strong track record of commercial marketing success. They will have experiences that exhibit core strengths in the following areas:

  • Strong strategic thinking, market analysis, and marketing execution skills
  • Self-starter who can thrive in a fast-paced and challenging environment, who is able to effectively balance multiple priorities and is always willing to pitch in to help the team achieve results
  • Partnering with internal and external stakeholders to extract key customer and marketplace insights to quickly identify that inform action-driven strategies and plans
  • Prioritizing and leading multiple complex projects, and effectively influence, collaborate, and communicate with internal and external partners
  • Ability to communicate with and foster strong relationships with cross functional partners outside the team to successfully lead initiatives
  • Collaborate with account field teams to understand needs; design and execute impactful tactics and programs
    • Develop strategies and frameworks for engagement with HCP audience
    • Develop pull/push-through strategies and tactics to roll out to the field team
  • Lead the regulatory and legal approval (Promotional Review Committee/PRC) of HCP marketing tactics
  • Skilled collaborator, able to drive decision-making and accountability in a cross-functional environment through strong influence and leadership skills
  • Deep experience managing advertising agencies, consulting companies, and other vendors

Qualifications Required:

  • 7+ years prior experience in the biotechnology and/or pharmaceutical industry are required, and at least 1+ year in HCP marketing
  • Rare disease or orphan drug experience preferred
  • HCP marketing experience preferred
  • Proven ability to use customer and marketplace insights to identify, develop and implement initiatives that meet customer and company needs
  • Experience managing key commercial processes that are critical to business performance, including brand planning and positioning, tactical planning, prioritization and execution
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to communicate complex scientific/medical concepts in a clear and concise manner
  • Strong project and agency management experience including resource allocation and budget
  • Effectively collaborate with cross-functional partners
  • Self-starter who operates well both independently and within a team
  • Ability to travel, 10-20%

Bachelor's Degree Required
