Senior Fermentation Engineer 1135651 Job Scope & Purpose: This position is to run a small fermentation laboratory (2L and 15L bioreactors), performing research and development work on recombinant bacteria ultimately destined for large-scale commercial production of human milk oligosaccharides. The work will involve testing new bacterial strains and optimizing their fermentation performance, and requires direct hands-on operation/maintenance of equipment, and the collection, organization and analysis of process data. The person will work closely in a team with molecular biologists & microbiologists generating strains, and with a biochemist/analytical scientist providing product identity and titer data. The person will supervise one junior fermentation specialist (a new hire) to assist in the operation of the lab. Primary Job Requirements:

  • PhD/MS with 8+ yrs experience in microbial fermentations
  • Familiarity with all aspects of small bioreactor operation and maintenance
  • Meticulous attention to process consistency and details is essential
  • Proficiency in process data analysis, interpretation and archiving essential
  • Knowledge of microbial metabolism and metabolic pathways would be an advantage
  • Experience in process transfer to large-scale an advantage
  • Supervisory experience an advantage, but note that this is a hands-on lab position
