Rapid Micro Biosystems is seeking a talented and experienced Process Engineer to work in our Manufacturing Engineering group. The Process Engineer’s responsibilities will support the transfer of new process technology, optimization of existing processes, and scale-up of new products.

Responsibilities

  • Performs process development and executes scale-up of complex new products using Six Sigma, Lean manufacturing methodologies, and statistical methods.
  • Develops innovative technology that results in lower manufacturing costs or increased capacity.
  • Evaluates process and design alternatives based on “design for manufacturability” principles and understands principles of “Cost of Goods Sold”.
  • Provide technical leadership in solving process issues involving equipment, raw materials, and scale-up.
  • Evaluate and develop new process capabilities to improve yield and reduce costs
  • Drive the process development through the design transfer to manufacturing.
  • Design and execution of validation runs
  • Characterize, compile, and analyze test data to define the ideal process and material specifications
  • Work with outside vendors to facilitate machine characterization, process transfer, and material procurement
  • Design and lead experimental programs. Comfortable working in the lab and manufacturing environment and provides hands-on guidance of operators, technicians, and peers.
  • Generates data, conducts advanced statistical analysis, and organizes and interprets data to establish and support new processes, materials, and/or application learning.
  • Conducts independent research to understand and deliver solutions to important technical and commercial problems in Process technology.
  • Strictly follows and complies with all safety procedures, standards and regulations and constantly strives for excellence.
  • Understands intellectual property (IP) issues relative to processes being developed.
  • Maintains positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors.
  • Works within a team and as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Multitasks prioritizes and meets deadlines in a timely manner with strong organizational and follow-up skills, as well as attention to detail.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution preferred.
  • Knowledge of inline and batch mixing, culture media development, web handling, laminating, chemical dosing, and raw material handling.
  • Knowledge of fluid mechanics, recipes and, process sequences.
  • Working knowledge and experience in Design for Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing methodologies
  • Experience with design of experiments
  • NPI and product scale-up experience and knowledge; Demonstrated ability to transfer technology from lab to commercial scale.
  • Strong personnel computer skills, including the use of statistical software for SPC and the design of experiments.
  • Self-starter and ability to effectively lead and contribute to multi-disciplinary project teams.
