Job Description

The Associate Director or Director, Global Customer & Market Insights, Neuromuscular Disease will play a key team leadership role within the Global Customer & Market Insights organization. This role will lead a dedicated global team, as well as coordinate, influence and support Regional and Local Customer & Market Insight leads worldwide.

The Associate Director or Director is primarily expected to lead Global Market Research and Competitive Intelligence efforts within a Therapeutic Area(s)s, collaborating with multiple stakeholders on insight, required analytic support, and business and brand planning. The lead will focus on Biogen’s leading rare disease category, Spinal Muscular Atrophy, and anticipate additional emerging neuromuscular diseases that may become approved.

The Assoc Director or Director will play a leading role in developing and supporting Center of Excellence the developing capabilities for Biogen, including responsibility for:

· Operational Excellence: identifying and implementing ongoing operational process excellence, research innovation, and capability building initiatives.

· Social & Digital insights: Lead, advocate for and coach the use of social & digital insights across Biogen, driving advocacy from teams across the organization and regional levels

This is an exciting opportunity to shape and innovate the insights function within Biogen, in an important area of strategic growth.

Specific responsibilities include:

Team Management (20%): Manage team of direct reports, providing regular coaching, feedback, direction and guidance. Develop team and individual goals and objectives and provide regular updates to Leadership Team on talent management progress.

Research Execution and Insight Generation (50%) Priority Setting, Research agenda & Budget: Partner with Global PDC leadership to clearly define the most important business problems to be solved in the most efficient way – sets annual Insights agenda for respective therapeutic area. Managing the budget for assigned therapeutic area– including the integrated Market Research and Competitive Intelligence programs. Provide regular updates to Leadership and manage a forward-looking research agenda for assigned PDCs. Project leadership – leading functional experts, often as ‘player coach’, in defining the problems, generating hypotheses, shaping the analyses, and generating and synthesizing insights for the brand/commercial team Competitive Intelligence: Delivering “steady state” Competitive Intelligence deliverables including monthly monitoring, quarterly earnings reports, conference insights and pipelines updates. Delivering other Competitive Intelligence programs in alignment with annual plan Primary Market Research, Expert Insight Generation: Leading the generation of insights supporting Global brand / franchise strategy in collaboration with the brand lead, brand team, and (as appropriate) extended Medical, Marketing, Market Access, International and US stakeholders Social & Digital Insights: lead, advocate for and coach the social & digital insights function within Biogen, driving advocacy from teams across the organization and regional levels

Global/Regional/Local Alignment: Building key process to align the US, Global and EU Customer & Market Insight teams on overall priorities, integration of efforts on key projects, and communication and pull through of implications Forecast: Provides guidance and oversight to Global Forecasting team’s efforts, and designing appropriate global studies as necessary to provide inputs into the Long-Range Plan Brand Planning: Define the key priorities and deliverables that support the annual planning process, including the Global Market Outlook and Situation Assessments

Development of Customer & Market Insight Capabilities (Operational) (30%) Working with the Leadership Team to identify and implement improvements to team operations including Market Research and Competitive Intelligence processes, knowledge management processes and capabilities, project management processes, and vendor management strategies. Lead effort to innovate the insight function by developing, piloting and training on new and novel insight methodologies

Qualifications

Associate Director 5-7 years of experience or Director 7-10+ years of experience within a pharmaceutical company, market research vendor, or consulting firm supporting the pharma/biotech industry. Experience managing direct reports and building team Highly collaborative – must be able to navigate and manage the needs of multiple stakeholders and help shape the direction of Customer & Market Insight team peers Analytical horsepower – extremely strong analytic and quantitative skill set and knowledge of pharma data sources. Strong project management skills, ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Strong communication skills, particularly presentation skills. Strong understanding of marketing and market research principles. Excellent strategic thinking capabilities and equally excellent tactical execution skills. Driven, highly self-motivated, confident, high-energy, bright and creative individual with desire and ability to own a high-profile part of the business. Exceptional team player, with the ability to develop and apply individual market research expertise in service of Brand Aligned Insight team objectives. Travel is expected in this role, up to 25%

Education:

B.S. in business, the life sciences, pharmacy, or chemistry (advanced biology, medicine-related degree preferred). MBA from a well-respected institution desired.
