Job Description

This is for a 6-month full-time co-op from January to June 2021.

The Digital and Quantitative Medicine (DQM) group within Research & Development uses an applied systems science model, along with clinical and human biology studies, to develop and industrialize novel clinical measurement tools for more sensitive, specific, efficient, and patient-centric drug development. DQM includes platforms in clinical technologies, quantitative medicine, and multi-scale computational modeling and simulation. The group’s work relies on robust interfaces with groups across multiple disciplines both within Biogen and externally.

This role will support the collection and processing of digital measures of movement, sleep physiology, and other functional endpoints generated from internal and external clinical studies in healthy subjects and in subjects with neurologic movement disorders.This will include expanding knowledge of medicine, data science, and engineering, especially with respect to disease progression measures and clinical trial design, and working in a matrixed environment. Experience with the design and running of clinical research studies, as well as Good Clinical Practice procedures, will be obtained.

    Qualifications

    • Completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in science or engineering.
    • Experience with (or interest in) multimodal wearable sensors and environmental monitors.
    • Experience with (or interest in) human biology research, clinical trials, neurologic movement disorders, and/or sleep disorders.
    • Fluency in Python, R, and/or other programming languages.
    • Experience with LabKey or other clinical database systems (e.g., RedCap).
    • Demonstrated ability to identify, analyze, and solve complex problems.

    To participate in the Biogen Internship Program, students must meet the following eligibility criteria:

    • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
    • Grade point average of 3.2 or higher preferred.
    • At least 18 years of age prior to the scheduled start date.
    • Be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university.
