Job Description

This is for a 6-month full-time co-op from January to June 2021.

The GBS CICOE is responsible to support All functional groups at Biogen to establish a robust CI program within their functions, that drives productivity initiative/results and enables a culture of Continuous Improvement through the building of CI capability within the Organization.

The team is also responsible for facilitating the development and supporting the deployment of an Enterprise wide CI Operating model, within each of the elements of the operating model, the CI COE Is responsible for the facilitation of the development on the frameworks to execute the 6 elements of the Operating model. Leading continuous improvement (CI) efforts and deploying lean methodologies across the site, as well as driving a continuous improvement culture within the organization. One of the elements that needs further development and growth is the element of ‘Master Tools and Methodologies’

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree (or in a current undergraduate program) in Industrial Engineering, Business Systems, Business or other related technical or business field.

  • Understanding of regulated GMP environment.

  • Strong computer skills, including MS Project/Visio and other related software packages (e.g., OneNote, SharePoint, Office 365, Wiki, etc.).

  • Has foundational Project Management knowledge.

  • Knowledgeable in utilizing systems to gather data, organize/interpret, and report for various leadership teams.

  • Good planning and organizational skills; ability to prioritize and accomplish tasks in a fast-paced environment.

  • Comfortable working on cross-departmental projects and with team members at various levels within the organization.

  • Stakeholder management skills with the customer needs perspective.

  • Self-starter, motivated, strong interpersonal and communication skills, creative entrepreneurial spirit.

Project #1: Revamp the CICOE Sharepoint Site

Project Scope: While today's CICOE SP site has a very polished and Corporate Affairs aligned interface, the different subpages (aligned to the CI Operating Model) could do with a lot of development/ enhancement. This would include housing the CI Toolkit in a very easy to access interface, with user-friendly templates aligned to the CICOE Operating Model.

Project #2: CI Training Materials Build Out

Project Scope: As we expand the CI Training offering and create a CI Education Continuum from Novice to Expert, there is an opportunity to develop, coordinate & leverage expert resources (E.g. LinkedIn Learning) to model the learning experience over a maturity curve, leveraging a 70:20:10 framework [OTJ: Demonstration: Theory]. Development of the framework and building out and enhancing (existing) training materials would the scope of work.

Key Learnings and Objectives (for the student)

Three key learning objectives for the student are: 1) understanding of the Continuous Improvement Program at Biogen (Enterprise wide), 2) Learning the business through understanding needs of the different functions and regions of the organization 3) learning how continuous improvement program is deployed in a Biopharma manufacturing environment. This will involve learning about cultural change, business practices and governance, and operating model, elements and CI methodologies & tools. By working across functions, the student will also learn strong management, communication, and influence without authority skills.

Outcomes and Values to the Organization

Deliverables from this project will continue to evolve and mature the Enterprise program building capabilities to identify, prioritize, execute and measure the impact of a formal continuous improvement program. The student will work as part of the GBS CICOE focusing on bringing best practices of CI to fruition at all levels of the organization.

To participate in the Biogen Internship Program, students must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
  • Grade point average of 3.2 or higher preferred.
  • At least 18 years of age prior to the scheduled start date.
  • Be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university.
