We are seeking a bioinformatics engineer to collaboratively develop software systems and pipelines for automated processing and analysis of next generation sequencing data. The successful candidate will work with software engineers, data scientists and project managers to advance Novartis’ efforts in oncology precision medicine.ResponsibilitiesThe Oncology Data Science (OncDS) group in NIBR Oncology seeks to advance biological understanding and improve the lives of patients with cancer. The group generates sequencing data from thousands of oncology clinical samples, which are analyzed with internal bioinformatics pipelines. This role serves as a bridge between engineers and scientists, and the successful candidate will be the point person for clinical data engineering and pipeline development. You will collaborate with research scientists to improve and develop and existing analytical pipelines, as well as have opportunities to contribute to larger technical projects focusing on data processing, harmonization and visualization. The successful candidate will have a strong background in processing next generation sequencing data, paired with software engineering experience on a medium to complex project in a team setting.Responsibilities include:·Support production pipelines for RNA and DNA sequence analysis, resolve issues as needed, and propose solutions to address root cause issues·Develop pipelines to support new assays and analytic approaches·Contribute to development of web-based tools for launching and monitoring pipelines·Collaborate with bioinformatics scientists and contribute to scientific methods development efforts·Contribute to rigorous engineering efforts using software development best practices·Opportunities for contributing to scientific visualization and data harmonization applicationsPosition Title:Senior Expert I Data ScienceMinimum requirements:Desirable Requirements:oB.S. or M.S. in computer science, bioinformatics, biology, or related fieldo2+ years professional experienceoAt least 1 year of practical experience with primary data processing tools for DNA-seq or RNA-seq (alignment, counting, variant calling)oExperience with testing and verification of software and data analysis pipelinesoProficiency with Linux command line utilitiesoExperience with R, Python, Java and HPC compute clustersoExperience with web application development, RShiny and SQL/NOSQL databases a plusoThe ideal candidate would also have experience with: agile software development practices; use of JIRA and Confluence tools; software version control best practicesWhy consider Novartis?799 million.
