ASSISTANT DEAN FOR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS, Office of the Vice Chancellor-Office of Minority Education (OME) (https://ome.mit.edu/) , to direct and assist with coordinating professional development programs for undergraduates, with a focus on underrepresented minority students (African American, Native American/Pacific Islander, and Latino/Hispanic). Will join a group whose overarching goals are to facilitate student transitions at the high school-college, college-graduate school, and post-graduate career interfaces; serve as a resource for underrepresented undergraduate minority students on opportunities for academic pursuits; provide student access to successful graduate students/alumni/faculty/industry and other resources at MIT and beyond; and provide a supportive academic, personal, professional, and cultural environment. Will direct and/or assist with coordinating/implementing several programs, including BCAP (https://ome.mit.edu/programs/bamit-community-advancement-program-fund-bcap) , Mentor Advocate Partnership (https://ome.mit.edu/programs/mentor-advocate-partnership-map) and E-Mentor Advocate Partnership (https://ome.mit.edu/programs/e-mentor-advocate-partnership-program-emap) programs, Master Your Future (https://ome.mit.edu/programs/master-your-future) , Laureates and Leaders (https://ome.mit.edu/programs/laureates-leaders) , Pathway to Graduate School, orientation, IACME Prize (https://ome.mit.edu/about/iacme-student-prize) , OMESAC Student Group of the Year Award (https://ome.mit.edu/about/iacme-student-prize/omesac-student-group-year-award) , and others; and serve as liaison to the Industrial Advisory Council for Minority Education (https://ome.mit.edu/about/committees-councils/iacme) . Job RequirementsREQUIRED: master’s degree in a STEM, education, and/or counseling field; five years’ college-level student advising experience; knowledge of or willingness to develop knowledge of the issues/best practices/current research/innovations in teaching and learning in higher education and in science and engineering specifically; excellent management, organizational, interpersonal, and oral and written communication skills; initiative; and advanced-level proficiency with Word, Excel, FileMaker Pro, Photoshop, PowerPoint, etc. Must be able to identify, analyze, and resolve issues collaboratively with all levels of staff/faculty/students; function with minimal supervision; and work effectively within an interdisciplinary group/team. Those with experience developing and implementing successful professional development programs for undergraduate students, particularly underrepresented minority students, are encouraged to apply.
